OK I have searched the nets and this is my situation and what I have done.
I run SuSE 9.1 on my lappy, have a 3G iPod. It syncs fine with gtkPod, but gtkPod cannot support audio books from audible.com (no Linux version of their filter, surprise). Have tried iTunes under the latest beta of crossover, no joy, no USB support. So, I installed WinXP under VMWare 4.5.2 and iTunes would hang until it timed out. So I googled for this problem and found one potential fix of unloading the usb_storage module. This did not help.
So, I punted and converted an audio book to mp3 and this seemed to work fine (did it on my old mp3 player) but found that I lost the virtual book mark ability. I didn't want to have to also split the mp3 up, this defeats the purpose of me buying the iPod over any of the other higher end players.
Anyone get their iPod working reliably in VMWare with iTunes?
