Hit the ipod as hard as you can, then throw it at the nearest wall (concrete works best). This will um.. reboot the discombobulator and fix the problem, yeah.

come on gurck as much as i dislike the ipod i'd have to admit it's a pretty decent mp3 player.

Reboot?

If that doesn't work try reloading the factory settings on it using the iPod updater.

Without knowing exactly what's wrong it's hard to say now, isn't it?

You might be a *bit* more descriptive...

Sheesh.

I'd actually like to see the light. I'm thinking the best way is to douse one in gasoline & touch a lit match to it :D

okay, last time i synced my ipod, i used the eject command from itunes

now i'm trying to sync it up again, and when i plug it in, it shows up in itunes as being offline, i.e. i can't see my files, and the name of my ipod doesn't show up

i've tried rebooting my computer, rebooting my ipod etc...

i'm going to be really pissed if to solve this problem i have to reformat it. i just got the damn thing tuesday, and it appears to be fully updated

Perhaps reinstalling itunes would help? You'd probably find a real answer at apple.com or ipodlounge.com. You shouldn't have to reformat the thing, that's for sure.

did you get it used? i think when you switch computer itunes will try and ask you if you want to format the ipod. google ipodagent and try that program.

also check and see if your USB ports are working. i have a PCI card (probably not your case since you have a laptop) that gives me 2 USB2.0 ports and it gave me nothing but trouble...

Hit the apple forums, or perhaps a similar PC-Based Ipod forum. They would be able to give you a better answer. I know I had this problem and I ended up just formatting. It only takes a few minutes to put all of the mp3s back on anyway.

Hmm..I had a similar problem and rebooting the iPod solved the problem. The guys at ipodlounge are really helpful. I would do a search and see if you can get a better answer.

If you do have to reformat your iPod BE VERY CARFUL when you reconnect it. I had iTunes managing everything and auto sync upon connecting and since the iPod was blank it nuked all of my MP3s and ACC files in my library. Thankfully I backed up the music on my iPod before this all happened or I would have been VERY unhappy.

*nod* this is what I'd try next. To do this, bake it at 400 for 30 minutes.

i thought i posted back again, but i did something to fix it. i don't remember what, but was able to get it to work without formatting. what a pain in the ass though, and now unfortunately, i have a growth on my hip the size of an ipod mini with the belt clip!

btw, this wasn't a used ipod, it was brand new

First, does your computer recognize it as a USB device? Can you explore it via my computer?
