I'm trying to help my mom get her iPod working. When she plugs the cable into her iPod, it freezes the entire computer up. There was spyware, but I removed every last trace of it. Also for a time being, there would be an error message coming from the sys tray saying that a file was corrupted in the iTunes directory.

Now I have reinstalled iTunes and it is still freezing up completely. It freezes the entire computer up and you cannot do anything other than a hard shut down.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

That's pretty drastic when the problem is probably PC related, not iPod related.

Have you tried the iPod on any other computer?
Were you using the newest version of iTunes?
How long did you wait to see if the PC would un-freeze? Did you try ctl-alt-del?
Can you plz post what O/S the PC is running?
Also, is the MoBo USB2.0 compliant?

I tried ctrl alt del, tried the newest version of iTunes, tried to see if it would unfreeze. Yes, the mobo is USB 2.0 compliant.

Operating System: You need atleast win2k-SP4 or winXP (not sure if XP needs a service pack). You're using one of these?

Where else should I have posted this? Peripherals? Many people post questions in regards to peripherals here.

Yes, Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all other updates.
