ipod haters, continue the hating

IDFK what i hate more now the iPod or BMW

and this isnt very hard to do, all you need is an audio in jack and a MP3 player that works by remote

First of all, most BMWs on the road won't be able to use the BMW iPod connection kit. Not only does the kit only work with 2002 or later 3 Series, X3 SAVs, or Z4 Roadsters, any car with optional built-in Navigation system, cassette deck, satellite radio, or CD change won't be able to use it, presumably because of the lack of dash space for the digital readout and because the auxiliary audio wiring is already taken up. So unless you've got the stock Standard or Premium sound (and the right car), you're pretty much out of luck -- unless you're buying new, then knock yourself out.
Smooth move BMW.

I'm wondering why they havent came out with something like this earlyer? I mean wired CD Changers that sit in the trunk usualy have the same protocol and are supported by most decks right? why not make some sort of DIN (thats what its called rite) controler for the ipod?

I've had roughly the equivalent in my 13-year-old Citroen car for a few years now. MP3 player that fits (like a glove, cheers Citroen!) into one of the dash cubbyholes, and a tape adaptor for my old-ish stereo. Hide the cable under the dash, and voila- MP3-player for the cost of a £10 cassette adaptor.

uh that doesn't count. you can't control the ipod from the steering wheel controls. if the ipod is in your dash you have to take it out and navigate manually through your playlist. in addition, your ipod isn't being charged at the same time, so you're SOL if you're low on batteries.

Actually, I can control it from the steering wheel 😀
See, the cubbyhole is directly behind the 10-o'clock position on the steering wheel. As the controls to my player are on the top, I can hit them with my middle finger. Agreed, not while taking corners, but that's why I get a decent selection cued-up before attacking B-road bends.
The batteries thing is a problem though. 1x AA battery "only" lasts me a week 🙁

I wonder if ipod plug & play with the 8-tracks deck on my low milage 1972 BMW. 🙂 I hope goddam not! Not your typical yippy BMW owner. Hell, most of the yippy BMW dealer don't even work on my car!
