iPod for my fiancée - Nano 6G or Touch 3G?

Hey guys,

My fiancée's birthday is coming up at the end of the month, and I'd like to get her an iPod. My budget is around $150-200ish, but I'd prefer to stay at the lower end of that scale. She'll prefers touch screens and hates the old Nano 5G look, and she'll primarily be using it for listening to music in the car, though she may play a few games and whatnot if I get an iPod Touch.

I've found 8GB 3G Touches and 16GB 6G Nanos in that price range, so it really comes down to wifi / other fun perks vs. double the storage. I'd love to grab a 32GB Touch, but I can't find any in my price range.

What do you guys suggest?

Has she ever used a touchscreen player in the car? I don't know how the new Nano handles it, but the iPhone/iPod Touch are very, very difficult to control blind. I mostly use my iPod in my car, and the fact that I can just reach over and push the next button without looking is a great boon.

The voice control on the iPod Touch/iPhones are really easy to use in the car. If you think she might enjoy using the apps on the iPod Touch, I'd recommend going that route.

Amen. The most frustrating experience is trying to navigate my iPhone when listening to music in my car. I considered buying a shuffle, but am waiting to see how easy the new Nano's interface will be to navigate.

She uses a touchscreen phone in the car, although not for multimedia. She's also the type that generally doesn't mind turning on a playlist, turning on shuffle, and listening to whatever songs happen to come up.

Sounds like I should go the Touch route. Is a 8GB third generation worth ~$160, or should I spend more to get a 32GB third generation (~$260, out of my price range, but I'll sacrifice if needed...) or something from the fourth generation?

Thanks guys. 🙂

3rd Gen 8GB is actually a 2nd gen 8GB.

4th gen 8GB is actually 4th gen.

More RAM, better screen, thinner, better battery life, video camera, crappy still camera, iOS 4. These are what you get with the 4th gen.
