iPod doesn't show up in iTunes and isn't detected properly in Windows Explorer

The iPod drive is named "Removable Disk (x🙂" and not "Howard's iPod" as it should be. Windows Explorer will also hang if I try to access the drive, e.g. I double-click it. iTunes also sometimes won't load.

The music on the iPod sounds like it's pretty messed up, too, with some songs taking a long time to start playing, and other songs cutting out after 1 second and going to a new track.

I reset it, but I still can't access the iPod.

EDIT: I put it into disk mode, and when I open up Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management, it says the iPod is unreadable. Can't even format it there.

Ah, I'm pretty sure I'm hosed. There's something loose inside the iPod and it now displays a sad iPod on its screen.

open it up. maybe the hd cable got loose somehow. if its dead, its not like you would make it worse 😛

Well if it is still under warranty I would get it fixed or replaced as long as you don't open it up. If it is out of warranty your screwed for the most part if something is very wrong. Which ipod is it anyways.

send it to paulson? a while ago my 2G mini also showed up as a removable drive. apprently the USB port went bad. if it showing the sad ipod screen, looks like the hdd is hosed.
