Someone got me a Logitech AudioStation iPod dock for Christmas. I don't have an iPod...I have an older Creative Zen Vision:M. But my battery life on the Zen has gone to crap and I was planning on getting an iPod soon anyway.

The Logitech AudioStation lists the following iPod models on its compatability list:
iPod mini
iPod (4th Gen)
iPod with color display
iPod nano
iPod with video

It looks like the AudioStation might be an older iPod Dock based on that list.

Does anyone have a matrix of compatible docking ports for the various generations and models? For instance, does the iPod Touch have the same port as one of the ones listed above? What about 5th/6th gen - are they the same as 4th? Or the Nano...are all nano generations the same? You get the idea...

After a little more searching, I think I understand now.

I guess you just need the right Dock Adapter (piece of plastic) to get your particular iPod to sit correctly in any iPod Dock (regardless of brand). The AudioStation came with Adapater #'s 3-10, but I could just buy the correct adapter from this list: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1380

Is that correct?

It should work with any of the newer models. When you buy a new ipod it comes with a dock adapter for that specific ipod.

Charging was an issue with a Griffin car radio adapter. We have two different generations of Nano (short and wide vs tall and skinny and rounded, maybe gen 3 and 4) and the adapter will play either of them but won't charge the newer one.

Just as a follow-up for anyone that might be wondering, the Touch does charge in this dock. No problems at all.
