ipod, dock, and line out (alarm troubles)

i just bought a 20gig ipod and it comes with the dock. i have it hooked up through my firewire card, and everything works great blah blah blah.

now im wondering how i can use the alarm on the ipod with the line out thing on the dock. when i put the ipod on the dock, i get the 'do not disconnect' thing and you cant play music through it.. am i going to have to use just the plain ac adapter and hook up the speakers that way? or is there a way to get around that?

you get the do not disconnect thing cause your computers hooked up to the ipod.
have your computer either unmount the ipod after synching, or disable disk access to the ipod, and after it syncs it'll say "ok to disconnect" on your ipod. a few seconds later the ipod will show the regular screen where you can play music and use the line out.
