I am buying an ipod soon. I haven't decided if I want to buy one at the apple store or at the local university bookstore. Local is instant gratification, but I dont get the free engraving. I am trying to figure out something a little bit more clever than just my name to put on it so help me out. P.S. does anyone know how long apple takes to ship an engraved ipod? thanks.

EDIT: some important info to prevent further confusion

-I have owned other mp3 players and tried out even more and I decided I want an ipod
I like ipods because:
they are thinner than any other player
they have a simple design
they have a good screen
they have the best human interface of any mp3 player

Please dont say anything about them being expensive! after the price cut with the new 4g's and the education discount, the 20gig is $269.

lets talk about alternatives to the ipod too and why ipods are good/bad

sorry I'm not black. I basically chose this avatar because hardly anyone uses it.
 
iRiver has better functionality but who cares about that iPod looks waaay sexier 🙂

What do you mean by engrave? I'm planning to buy me an iPod as a christmas present, should I get it engraved too?
 
well if you engrave it it basically reduces the resale value a whole lot

i did with mine though i just put my name on it

i like it alot though and if i do not plan on selling it

i will just hand it down to my brother when i decide to pick up the next gen or whatever

think of it from a reseller point of view...you will probably want to sell it in the future to upgrade again...so dont do it.
 
how about nothing? Engraving is kills the resale value. I know I'd probably get a new ipod player every 3 years or so (or however often they update)

good point. Do you think it is possible to remove the engraving with a buffer or something similar?
