got a 4rth gen ipod with trouble connecting to itunes or the computer at all in disc mode. so i stick it in diagnostics, oddly enough it passes everything including the harddrive scan. theres a harddrive smart report which i guess is the same as the s.m.a.r.t. on ide drives. the number that isn't zero is retracts, and the first time i checked it was 42, now its 52. that a sign of a dead or dying drive? itunes ipod update failed because it said something about corruption.
anyone try replacing their drive before?
