I wanted to get an ipod classic for my mother but since they weren't updated which I was waiting for would it be worth it to still get one now?

If you wanted one before how does them not getting an update change anything? The iPod Classic really can't be improved upon (except perhaps with a price drop). It's the ideal music vault. Perfect for use in the car or whatever.

If it fits your mother's needs then go for it.

I have to agree. I've got an old 5th-gen iPod that sees permanent car duty, and it still works great with no need to replace in the foreseeable future.

I'm thinking Apple is going to phase out the Classic. In other words, if you want one now, get it.

I really don't think they'll bother phasing it out unless demand dries up...and I don't think it will until another large capacity player becomes available for a similar price. The 64GB is almost 1/3 the size and costs $399 vs. the classics $249 price. I bet they would get even more takers if they could reduce the price to under $200. If mine broke today, I'd likely replace it with the same.

Ya I saw that but for $50 more I can get a brand new one. I know they say they test them but the last thing I need is for it to break on her. She is already skittish about technology no need to make it worse with a defective item.

For what its worth, my mother and roommate both have refurbed Macs. The only reason my mom's isn't working anymore is due to liquid damage. The refurbs do still come with the same warranty if that helps at all.
