iPod cable with USB & Firewire connectors

I saw one of these at Best Buy yesterday, the packaging didn't say much as to which iPod's it supports. I found one on Amazon but it gives no info other than the models it supports. I have a 1G Touch if I buy this will the firewire make a difference? I know how much faster FW is but I read somewhere if the iPod model doesn't support Firewire it's useless. Cable looks interesting and I'd love to be able to sync over Firewire.

The newer iPods don't support Firewire any longer.
