Ipod battery lasts about a half an hour...

As you've read, my Ipod battery dies very quickly. For the past few weeks I haven't used it much, so it's been sitting on the charger. Is there anything I can do? I'm going to let the battery die out totally, then recharge it, and repeat. Anything other than that?

Have you updated the firmware? I've heard that some iPods have this defect and an update fixes it.

the apple storewill tell you, at least this is what they told me, discharge it. Then charge it up again... then when it says FULL chrage unplug the cable for like 30 seconds, then plug it back in so it says charging again. Do the unplugging/charging thing like 4-5 times.. the iPod will probably take a LONG time to say charged again.

This worked for me, they said don't trust the battery meter, even when it says fully charged it's not,

thats not right, get a new battery..or a new charger. Buy it from a place with a good return policy. That way if you buy the battery and it still doesnt hold a charge, you can exchange it easily.

sorry I'm just bitter because I thought they would actually do something to fix my problem.. instead they kept my iPod for a week and they said nothing was wrong.. That the battery meter being inaccurate is "normal".

The one thing holding me back from buying an ipod is the cost of replacement batteries. If you're willing to crack open your ipod and replace it yourself, it looks like you can do it for around $60. That's awfully expensive for something that's rated for only 500 charge cycles. It's 3.7V 1500mAh. So it's roughly equivilant of 3 NiMH AA batteries but 20 times more expensive.

wouldnt 500 charge cycles be good for at least 2 years?
