Hi guys,

I have an 3rd gen 20Gb iPod.

It is all fine BUT when I don't use it for say 2-3days like over the weekend. The battery life DROPS even though it is full or 80% or 50% when I leave it. When I go to use it after the 2-3 day break the battery is almost empty :(. I have been caught a few times and have been left with no music :(

So does this happen to your iPod's? I can't remember this happening to my 2nd Gen 20Gb iPod though. I sold it after 3-4 weeks.

My Sony MD battery keep much better. Not played the thing for about a 6-8 weeks and the battery still worked.

Thanks.

Hmm, I think I have this problem too. Some fridays after I workout I'll toss my ipod into my bag and it's at about 60 or 70% battery life, when I get back on monday I have no music to play :(

IT REALLY P!SS'S ME OFF!

I do charge it via a the firewire cable and not to the mains plug though.

I should try that and see how it lasts.

if you don't put it to sleep yourself, I think it stays in some psuedo standby mode, draining batteries. as far as the MD goes.. yes, they have excellent battery time.. too bad sony couldn't make sonicstage bearable, and not that atrac3 crap.

I actually 'turn it off' by holding down the 'play/pause' button and then putting the hold switch to on.

MD battery life kicks ass. Definatley agree with you on the Sony not doing it properly. Just wish my MD's had 'native' support. But my mate has a NetMD and it works great for him. No chrashing no nothing.

Oh I see. So my iPod isn't 'defective' then and just the battery sucks.

If it 'lasted' 8hrs with a 3 day break or so that wouldn't be bad at all. But the battery not lasting with a break sucks BALLS....

Oh well still waiting for 'the perfect' mp3 player then :D

Mine does the same, but at least on a full charge it can run for 12 hours straight. (4g ipod). I say it's the price to pay for having instant on music when you unlock the hold switch.

Okay well hopes of a 4th Gen curing the problem has been shafted.

I wonder why I have not heard about this before? You'd think a forum full of pedantic hardcore people like us would have noticed or b!tched about this more right?! :p

I'd rather it take a few secs to load up and the battery to last 'properly' imo.l

If I don't use mine for a while it gets out of standby mode and shuts off. I can tell because when I turn it on a few days later, it does the long boot up process with the Apple logo.
