I have a 60GB video iPod from back in 2006. It worked great for a long while, and then I moved. I had it in a box, protected of course, and I left it there for a couple months. There is no damage to it, it's still shiny and dent free. It will not turn on, and if I plug an iPod USB cable to it and a computer, nothing happens. No charging icon, no power up, nothing. It's like the battery is actually dead, not just uncharged. Can that happen? Am I doing something wrong?

Cliffs:
- Perfect condition iPod left safely in a box for 2 months, worked great just before packing it.
- Now it wont turn on
- Charging cable does absolutely nothing
- I won't pay an arm and a leg to fix it

Let me know what you guys think, and if it's going to cost me 120 dollars to have a tech open it up and replace something... I probably wont spring for that.

Sounds dead and Apple is unsympathetic with that type of thing. It will cost you $120. Better to buy a new one, or just get a Zune.

Leave it on the charger overnight regardless of whether it says it is charging.

Try pressing the center button and the menu button at the same time and hold it for like 10 seconds. This fixed my nano when it did what you are describing.

Maybe the battery undercharged itself? Try what bignateyk suggested and see if it comes back. If it doesn't... you can either fix it or dump it.

You need to plug it into the wall charger, the USB charger only works if there is enough juice to negotiate the USB connection.
