Ipod 3g charging question

I have a 15gb 3rd gen iPod coming in the mail. Will I need to buy a separate charger, or does it come with one. I understand a dock isn't bundled with my unit, according to Apple's website.

(I have a firewire pci card coming in the mail, too.) Also, for using the iPod on the PC, should I use iTunes or can I use another, better program than iPod's proprietary program.
 
The iPod should come with an AC adapter that the fire wire cable plugs into.

As for a program to use, I am personally very satisfied with iTunes. The iPod should ship with MusicMatch Jukebox. There is another program called Ephpod that some people like. Also if I'm not mistaken, there is a plug in for WMP that allows you to interface with the iPod.
