iPod 30gig not working...

I just bought my 5g ipod last night, and now I'm have a problem that I can't fix. First, my songs were greyed out and now when I try to use my Ipod I get a Folder with a !. I used ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61003 ) that link, but it didn't resolve it. Everytime I connect my ipod it keeps saying Do Not Disconnect. I tried reinstalling twice, and everytime I use ipod updater it freezes on me.

Can anyone help me?
