iPhoto and Picasa

I have a mac I use for work. I run both XP and OS X. My wife has an XP machine. We both have photos that we work on. I'd like to try to minimize sorting and tagging of photos and keep photos backed up. We use synctoy to back up her photos to a server at home. I'd like to do the same with the mac.

I'd also like to edit photos on the windows side for my own photos. I have Photoshop for Windows as well as picasa. What is the best way to make everything coexist peacefully and is there a way to make everything complement each other?

i don't understand the comment on iphoto in your title if you're going to use picasa to jointly manage the pictures. In fact, it would probably be more useful to ask in the photo forum

Except Picasa isn't available for the Mac, to the great chagrin of many

Yup. I'd have no problem using Picasa instead of iPhoto if it were available.

What I'm planning on doing is having iPhoto work with the files directly (not import them into an iPhoto library). I will allow Picasa to make copies and keep the original as my wife often modifies the files in a way that makes the original unusable (black and white, cropping, etc). I usually just work on adjusting color and sharpening, etc. I guess we'll do more manual cataloging of the files with folders if we can't find a better alternative.
