iphones....speakers....the beach...question?

Hello all,

Ok, so we all know that iphones are very popular now and they can play music. The problem is that they have low sounding "speakers" for a crowd of people to hear at a beach party.

As of this day, is there a device that a person can hook up an iphone or ipod to for better sound?

Something that will not break the bank buy still sound decently loud to play music on the beach?

There is also the new Big JamBox or the Bose little wireless speaker thingy.

These are both wireless options that run off Bluetooth, there are always wired options, just go hit up a walmart or something to see what you have there.

You can use the headphone jack to connect to just about anything with audio input. Boombox, battery powered speakers, etc.

What's your budget and do you have access to power? (or need something battery-powered)

Easiest/cheapest way is just go grab a battery-powered Boombox from Walmart or wherever and run a headphone cable into the AUX input.

I still prefer my old Logitech mm50 speakers system. Built in rechargeable batteries and it's small and sounds great.

First of all, I do not live in North America and there are NO foreign large chain stores like Walmart here. The choices for decent quality electronics are LIMITED here.

My gf has a beach front home on an Island off the coast and we regularly hang out on the beach in front of her home. Almost everyone has an ipod of iphone but NO way to play music loud.

I think it might be better for me to invest in a good boombox that has an ipod doc or iphone doc built into it? Or just buy a cable to hook up the iphone or ipod to Aux input.

Besides, I am sure a boombox would sound much louder than many wireless speakers ir ipod docs.

Thanks for all the feedback.

make sure you keep iphone/pad on ice. it will overheat in like 10 minutes in sunny florida this time of year.

Yup, sounds like a battery-powered boombox will do the trick for you. Although my caveat is - most dedicated "iPod" boomboxes have pretty crummy sound, at least from the 20 or so I've demoed. The Apple Hifi is just terrible. My favorite so far is the Griffin Amplifi, which is really decent for the size (doesn't have a battery though). I use it for outdoor movie parties all the time with my projector. Plenty of sound for 10 or 15 people.

Most good boomboxes these days have an AUX in (1/8" minijack headphone cable input) and let you hook up anything with that type of jack...iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc. - anything with a standard headphone jack can be ported into the boombox that way.

Again, do you have access to power (extension cord etc.) or do you need battery power?

Also are you interested in DIY? This site has some really great plans that you can buy to build giant, loud speakers & subwoofers for pretty cheap: (compared to prebuilt stuff)

Yes, I have access to power and would need a really long extension cord. Thinking about it now, I would not need batteries if I use long extension cords.

I believe its cheaper for me to get a boombox that can only play cd's (NO built in iPod docs) and then use a wire to connect from iPod or iPhone to the boombox via Aux input.

I just need to find a boombox that is not too big and bulky.
