Getting smart phones this week, first time (going from a regular phone). I've played around with both for a bit, will some more, but want to hear your thoughts on iphone4 vs. incredible2.

GPS is huge for me, FB integration, email, fast/easy texting. So far I like texting on the iphone more. As for open source apps, I'm not sure I really have a need for a lot of those?

EDIT: also looks like Droid Charge is now out? Will have to check it out. I decided against Thunderbolt because of the battery life, wonder if this is better.

Droid Charge by far. Better battery life than TB. Has an unlocked bootloader and Samsung release the source code weeks ago. Also LTE speeds FTW!

I've got the incredible 2 I got it about a week ago just remember that you can try out different virtual keyboards on Android. The screen size is perfect for me. Larger than the ip4 and not huge like the charge. For the record my last two phones before this were the Droid x and the iPhone 4

I haven't used the voice recognition on the iPhone, but I LOVE it on my OG Droid. I can send a text in 2 seconds...

Unless things have changed in an new firmware that I haven't updated to yet, the iphone doesn't do voice to text. The voice recognition is to dial and control music type stuff only. The only thing I've seen that tries to do it is Dragon Diction, and in that you have to open the app to read your voice and then copy/paste that message where you want it.

Lack of voice to text is the only thing really holding me back from iphone. I didn't know you could try out different keyboards on the inc2 ... how are they different? Different sized keys or?

On almost all Android phones you can install different keyboards. Some will have larger keys and different ways to input the text also.

Some are just simply more responsive as well. I'm not a fan of the stock keyboard on the Incredible 2 but the android 2.3 keyboard in the market is epic. You can even adjust the size of the keys.

OP, do you intend to or are you willing to root? And you do you have LTE service? If you answered yes, its really between the Bolt and the Charge. Using LTE, both phones will take a hit to their battery life, but the Bolt is a sturdier phone than the Charge. Reviews of the Charge praised its battery life, but also noted their review unit's plastic casing and screen were scratched and they had no idea how. The Charge is not the Gorilla glass founds on the Bolt, and will need a screen protector just to protect it from sliding in and out of your pocket.

Both phones will get a great deal of development on them, and kernel source for both has been released.

After using my TB for more than a month now, I have to say, its poor battery life is blown incredibly out of proportion. If you've rooted it, its easy to get a solid 16-18 hours out of it, with moderate use, and only lite LTE usage. Not exactly great, but far from the couple of hours people rant about. And that's with the kludgey Froyo radio, the recently leaked Gingerbread radio improves the handoff between 3G and 4G, and the power use of 4G, significantly. Quite a few XDA members have reported more than a full day of light use using that radio.

Just FYI I got the Charge. Love the big screen. Battery life is ok (I charge once a day). I don't even know what LTE is but I have it. I'm still getting used to having a smart phone. I have a screen protector and flexible silicone shell on it.

Don't forget to try all the different keyboards. Swype > all, for me, but others prefer predictive regular keyboards.

Whats an unlocked bootloader...how does that help you? I have a charge and I am just curious..all my friend have Iphones and they are trying to convince me to trade it in.

The only way it helps you is you can basically "unlock" the phone and tweak some things on it and get some extra features. If you like the way your phone works then it's no big deal.

Give up a bigger/better screen, faster gpu, and the locked-in unlimited 4g plan? They're silly.
