You're right. Instead of a iphone, I bought a phone with 3g, gps, a keyboard with tactile response, full 3rd party support and applications, and the ability to customize my phone to my prefferences. Wonder if I can sell it and get a iphone. Maybe I can buy one off of one of you Apple lemmings who will no doubt be camping out to buy a iphone 2.0 and proclaim it the greatest innovation of the decade! Oh, you say 3g existed before June? But it couldnt be that good because it wasnt iphone 3g! AT&T is gonna increase the 3g speeds just for iphone users so they can constantly get on message boards and tell us how great their phones are and that the rest of us luddites who need things like a multitude of 3rd party apps and exchange/BES support need to swich to a iphone right away.

The iPhone has much more potential than the tilt does. As the SDK produces more and more high quality software, all I have to do is buy it and not upgrade the iPhone.

Oh, and you forgot to mention how incredibly buggy and SLOOOOOOWWWWW windows mobile is. I could find problems in the software with just playing with a phone for 5 minutes.

To say that the iPhone 'takes the highest quality pictures out of any camera phone Ive seen.' suggests that you havent seen many phones. Some SE phones have really good cameras.

The only thing on your list exclusive to the iPhone is multi touch, which really is not that much of an advantage.

The iPhone is a nice phone but there are others out there as good, if not better. (depending on what you want them to do)

Used other windows mobile phones by HTC. iPhone blows them away in so bad.....Yes I had third party software on my HTC and nothing they could do could save that buggy ass platform. Hell, a lot of the third party apps were shit too

No, I'm not. I have an at&t tilt and it does everything anyone could want. Sure the battery life is a bit of a problem, but it does alot of things the iPhone should have done from the beginning.

Yes it can with the correct browser. The iPhone has Safari browser and thus is setup to view the internet like at your desktop or laptop. With Skyfire, you can browse the REAL internet. With Opera Mini, you can do the same thing. It's all about having the correct software. Granted, PIE is not the best thing to view the REAL internet on, but it works in a pinch.

In addition to all that, the iPhone is also missing:-

- Copy/paste
- voice dialing

It's fantastic first entry into the Smartphone Market. There are some omissions, though, which I'm sure will be addressed in the v2 device, but the original will start to look less rosy in 6 months from now, I can guarantee you that.

for the current generation iphone:

1. yes, it can Text Message (SMS). It can not Picture Message (MMS).
2. it can sort of instant message; there is no official native app, you must jailbreak the phone to get one. There are several online AIM sites (jivetalk); I'm not sure about MSN Messenger
3. No, there is no GPS. The current iPhone does have a location feature which is either WiFi or Cellular triangulation, and it works pretty well.

Sure those other phones have a lot of neat stuff. But from my vast experience, the things that the iPhone CAN do, it does very well. I don't miss MMS because quite frankly, my aqcquaitences and i never really had the need to use it. Also, a real keyboard takes up space and I'd rather have smaller dimensions for my phone. To each their own.

Everyone is completely hung up on the browsing capabilities of a phone. I for one am not an iphone fan but have played with the browser a bit and must say it is good. The only comparable browser that I would recommend to anyone would be skyfire. It is currently in beta stage but, by far one of the best browsers that I have found.

browsing capabilities aside, mobile internet doesn't really interest me. what makes it tits is the fact that i no longer have to carry around two devices. and since i'm addicted to the itunes store, i can't really play a lot of my music on any portable devices other then ipods.
