iPhone won't let me send e-mail

When trying to send through my hotmail account, sometimes it will let me and sometimes it won't. When it won't, it says there is a server issue. What the heck is going on here and how do I fix it?
 
add hotmail as a microsoft exchange account and it will be better. check the documentation for the server name
 
Does it tend to work in certain places or on certain wi-fi and not in others, or does it randomly work/not work while in the same location?

@MotionMan, no there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I think hotmail is the problem, as suggested, because the gmail works fine-go figure.

I have a similar problem on the rare occasions that I have to send something from my Yahoo account (I only use it for Craig's List). It is the only POP e-mail I use, BTW. Is Hotmail POP?

make sure you don't use the usual ports (25) they are blocked. 587 is a common port used as a workaround to avoid the filter isp's are using
