Check out this thread as far as I can tell you have to backdate the firmware but I'm not sure.

Are you wanted to unlock or jailbreak the phone? I ask because some people think it means the same thing.

It's sim-locked for T-Mobile and I want to use Ben as my service provider. I'd like to try Cydia out, too, I haven't seen it yet.

From my post in the thread that S Freud linked:
Jailbreaking - a software hack to disable code-checking on the primary processor which allows files to be moved on and off of the iPhone without having to go through iTunes.

Unlocking - a software hack that modifies the baseband process firmware to trick the phone into thinking that it is SIM unlocked.

It's SIM locked for T-Mobile in Germany? I thought T-Mobile in Germany was unlocking them after 90 days upon request...? Is it 3G or the first generation iPhone?

Use Quickpwn to install the unlock for both. With the 1st gen, Quickpwn will unlock it during the jailbreak (if you check the unlock box), with the 3G, the jailbreak will install Cydia and then you download yellowsn0w off of Cydia and unlock using that.

There are links at the bottom. Read the whole post carefully though.

Thanks, but I've got baseband 02.30.03.. That a problem?
