iPhone Update 3.1 broke my iPhone

So I updated to 3.1 on my iPhone, soon as I did, I got that USB + iTunes image that appears when your iphone demands to be reconnected.

Upon doing so, iTunes pops up and a pop up tells me I need to restore my iPhone. After clicking the restore button, I get a bunch of loading bars and all that shit, and then a pop up tells me it cannot continue due to unknown reasons, but on top of the bar is the title: ERROR 13

Upon googling ERROR 13 I have seen at least one other person encounter this problem, so I'm sure it's a widespread problem.

I tried holding down the Home Button and clicking Restore on iTunes, still got Error 13.

Anyone have any ideas?

Were you jailbreaking before? Is there an apple store anywhere near you?

Based on brief googling I have seen the following recommendations;
Restart the phone
Restart the computer
Redownload the restore image
Try a different USB port (namely, don't use it through a hub if there is one there)
Try it on another computer

Jokes aside, have you been attempting to restore from a backup or a clean installation? If you're trying to do a restore from backup, it's possible the backup is correupted. If you try a clean installation and that fails, the only thing I can think of is taking it to an Apple store.

Good luck.

TehMac -
I had same problem
I was doing this on Windows vista machine. I had exactly the same problem. Unable to restore either.

I called support, they asked me to try two options

1. if you don't have a different machine
First disconnect your phone (with that USB cable image) Create a different userid with admin rights, log in with this connect the iphone, restore to facory condition.log out. go back to original user id. restore from backup

2. if you have different machine
If you are sure on the original machine (I thing before upgrading itunes takes a backup), try to restore to facotry conditions on this PC2. Then go back to PC1 (original) and restore backup. Luckily I have a macbook, things went smooth.

Hope this works. Let me know

I went to the apple store after work, so my jeans were wet, but they had no problem fixing it and restoring it.

Apparently my connector USB is broken, it's slightly bent and so the sync'ing gets a bit "off." For the record, Error 13 is a Sync Error, related to an unrecognized USB port, or something of that nature.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

Edit: and no, no jail breaking at all, hence the fixation from apple. :p

Thanks me guv, and yes, I did a clean install, I tried all the tricks in the trade from a layman's standpoint.
