iPhone suddenly plays all web videos in page (not fullscreen) by default

1 or 2 weeks ago, my iPhone suddenly changed the default behavior for playing videos in a web page. They play within the page instead of going full screen. Sometimes the UI overlaps and I can't tap the button to go to full screen unless I rotate horizontal or do the reverse pinch gesture.

There was no corresponding update to explain this. I suspect the glitch began with some confusion while using AirPlay with my current-gen Apple TV. Now it has persisted through at least 1 iOS update.

Another possibility is that my Purify content blocker is somehow causing this. I noticed that the first few ad search results on Google are now visible (they were normally suppressed by the content blocker).

Has anyone else noticed this sudden change in behavior with iPhone/iOS?

That is odd. I thought iOS automatically kills the background video processes when there is another video on the foreground.
