30% fee seems a bit steep. I don't suppose it's possible to distribute applications without going through Apple?

30% = worldwide distribution through iTunes - which every iPhone user has - plus not having to mess with any selling issues (bandwidth, payments, etc.). 30% is excellent for non-corporation-type programmers, which is what I'd imagine 95% of the apps will be.
