I've been using an unlocked/rooted G1 on my ATT service for a while. My gf got a new iphone and gave me her 1st gen iphone to play with(mainly to figure out how to jailbreak it so i can do the same for hers). i went ahead and factory reset everything because she had all kinds of crap on there. Upon inserting my sim and running through the itunes process it said I should receive an activation email with further instructions how to activate my iphone. It's been 5 hours and I'm curious if it just literally 24 hours or am I doing something wrong? I can't get past the screen where it displays the white power cable pointing to itunes. Can someone elaborate on the 'activation process' for 1st gen iphones?

Wish I would have left her settings on there and stuck my sim in there so I could messing with jailbreaking right this second but I can't do shit=/

The activation process is for registered iPhone users on AT&T. It probably sent the activation email to whomever the phone is registered to.

If your intention is to jailbreak it anyway, then I would just plug it in and jailbreak it and skip the activation screen altogether.

Follow the tutorials here depending on your phone, your iPhone OS, and your operating system:
