Man, the people who bought this thing on launch day must be peeved that the iphone dropped $200 in two months.

EDIT: Looks like you can still get a 4 GB iphone for $299 while supplies last.

I'm glad I bought mine last week, its within the 14 day return period so I'll get $200 back. :D

I agree that it does suck for the people who bought it on launch day...and it also makes me wonder what they have up their sleeve. Probably a 3G iPhone for Europe thus making ME angry. Oh well.

The unit price is the tip of the iceberg. Don't forget the required AT&T contract at $60 a month for 2 years with a$36 activation fee. And if you terminate that early, it will add another $175 to your bill.

As is the deal with any other cell phone. What's your point?

I think partly the reason being is that the price is too high.

$400 is the sweet spot for PDA phones... Tytn was expensive at first but the price dropped.

Apple did this on the day new ipods came out so stock price will balance out.

I pay 70 per month for 2 phones with no activation fee and unlimited data.

Point is, unless there is a business expense involved or you are filthy rich, it is an expensive toy to own and use. Further, other cell phones are competitive with carriers. Unless hacked, iPhone is sole source AT&T - not competitive.

thats not entirely true, my roommate has a Palm 755p (sprint CDMA, so locked to 1 carrier) and he pays $55-60 per month as well. The phone itself was $500, the iphone has dropped to $400. While the Treo does have 3rd party programs, everything he's installed has been a complete hassle with unexplained crashing and locking up.

I'm not saying that the iPhone is the greatest phone ever, but the service plan is competitive for voice+data (even for a Razr it'd be $40 voice + 19.99 unlimited data). Its no Sprint SERO, but thats a very special plan that only 1 carrier has.

I just got off the phone with at&t about possibly getting a credit. I knew it was a long shot because I purchased it at launch. I heard some people were sucessful in getting a credit so I said what the heck and gave it a shot.

The lady at AT&T said there wasnt anything she could do unless the phone was purchased in the last 14 days (which it wasnt). She said both models are being discontinued and a new model is coming out very soon. Could this be the iphone 2.0 with 3g????

Sounds like you and your friend doesn't have a clue. You can purchase the Treo for Verizon also. Not to mention that your friend way OVERPAID for his treo and is an idiot that cant install software.

I got my treo for $299 + $30 month plan with unlimited data.

Show me a way to get that with an iphone. Show me where you can buy an iphone from another carrier like you can the Treo.

Apple is giving a $100 credit, NOT AT&T. You need to call Apple.
