iPhone Poll: Too expensive/Ok Price? Will you buy one/not by one?

Personally, i think it's too expensive, but i can afford it... And i'm unsure of whether i'll get it or not. On one hand, i'd feel like crap forking over that kind of dough for such a device. On the other, the thing has me drooling 😛

edit: sorry, here are the prices:

he 4GB iPhone will go out the door in the US as a Cingular exclusive for $499 on a two-year contract, 8GB for $599. Ships Stateside in June, Europe in fourth quarter, Asia in 2008.

Too much money. I wouldn't even get it if it was $100.

When I buy a phone, I get the one that works as a phone with text messaging and that is 0-$30 with a contract.

Jobs also announced that Cingular Wireless will be the exclusive carrier of the iPhone in the United States through a multi-year deal. It is however a GSM phone with a SIM card, so there remains the possibility of use with other GSM carriers. No price or carrier has been given for Canada, Europe or Asia.

All I needed to see. No I will NOT be getting one.

I don't think its too expensive, but then again its definately *NOT* for the masses. This is another toy for the geek elite--the select few who don't have to choose between spending $600 on a PS3, an iPhone or a pair of SLI video cards because they can afford all 3 options.

But then again, lets say you're someone like me who has an old RAZR, an older 20GB iPod and no handheld video player. In 2007 I could upgrade all 3 and I'd pay about $50 for a new phone (with contract) and $350 for a new iPod. That's $400 right there. For another $100, I get a PDA, widescreen video player, and maybe even better battery life by just getting an iPhone instead. When you look at it that way (which is how Apple marketing wants you to look at it) it doesn't sound too bad.

If I didn't get free smartphones at work I'd probably jump on this at launch. More likely, however, I'll just upgrade to the BlackBerry 88xx and the new Samsung WM6 smartphone when they're released.
