sold my Touch and will be getting an iPhone this week, from what I've read on iPhones every mp3 you put on it has to be in a playlist in order to play. I understand this, so what do people do make one big playlist with all their songs in it and when they put new songs on the iPhone they just update the one playlist and re-up it too? I know this question sounds a bit... dumb? This isn't something I had to deal with on my Touch and it seems odd the iPhone's require what seems like an extra step for no reason.

Needing a playlist on the iPhone is no longer required (You can manually manage music like on other iPods - just no disk mode), it actually hasn't been required for months now.

Using a playlist is super easy though, and not really much more work at all;

1. Create a playlist in iTunes called iPhone (or whatever).
2. Go to the iPhone settings and under the music tab, check to sync the iPhone playlist you just created.
3. Instead of dragging music to the iPhone, just drag it to the iPhone playlist.
4. Sync, Voila.

Now adding music is really no different than any other ipod. If you want more music, just add it to the playlist. If you want to delete the song from the iPhone, just delete it from the playlist.

I do playlists because I have too much music to sync it all to the little 8GB iphone.

What I do is have my "Favorites" playlist sync to my iPhone. Favorites includes anything rated over 3 stars. My regular iPod just syncs all music.

As mentioned above you do not HAVE to use a playlist to get songs on the iPhone
