Honestly I'm pretty disgusted. I bought my wife and I a pair of iPhones on July 27, hardly a month ago, and I feel like I lost $400. I can understand changing the price around Christmas, but they dropped the top-end model by $200 a scant 2 months after they were released. That seems ridiculous to me...ouch, Apple.

hmm, lose your ass because the price is too high or piss off people who already bought one.

Doesn't seem like a hard descision to me.

Haha true story. I know a TON of people who will be buying them now that they are $399. I don't regret buying mine early because it has been immensely useful to me in the short time that I've had it, but boy do I feel jipped!

exactly, its a double edged sword. On one hand its great that they will likely sell shitloads more now, BUT they effectively just alienated the mac faithful.

ALL tech products drop in price over time; however i dont recall seeing such a drastic price drop on any popular tech since I've been around. (33% in 2 months)

Ditto, I've never seen a price drop this fast. This is ridiculous. I've been pretty happy with Apple so far but I really feel stabbed in the back today.

I am surprised that Apple didn't offer current owners a $100 iTunes giftcard or something similar. I wouldn't expect they would get the entire $200 back but something would have been nice. Of course, if the iPhone had launched at $399 I would guess there would have been massive product shortages and price gouging by people buying them strictly for resale.

Personally, I held off because I thought the original prices were too expensive but I will probably buy one now.

It was an amazing price drop... I couldn't believe it. But it was either drop the price, or the iPod Touch would cannibalize the iPhone, and thus really piss off at&t.

And if they DIDN'T release an iPod Touch, people would be screaming bloody murder, heh.

It's still not enough for me to switch to at&t though.

Nice!

With the price drop to $399, I might consider getting one now. It's still expensive, though.

For those of you who ARE feeling ripped off, I only have four words for you:

WE TOLD YOU SO!

Almost ALL cell phones are insanely overpriced when they are first released! They do it on purpose to keep the demand at manageable levels until they can fully ramp production.

Yeah but nobody drops the price by 33% within 2 months of the initial release. The problem isn't the price, it's the humongous pricedrop so soon after purchasing one.

I bought my 8GB iphone 11 days ago. Will my Apple store do a price adjustment for me? I'd like that $200 back.

i can't believe how much people are whining over this. if it wasn't worth 599 to you 2 months ago you shouldn't have bought it. but you had to epeen up and be an early adopter. and yes, cell phones DO drop in price quickly. this isn't a regular ipod, or a macbook. it's a cell phone, regardless of who makes it. in another 6 months it might be free with a new contract, then what? more crying?

hell for all you guys know it was part of the contract negotiation with at&t, and had nothing to do with apple. but whatever, QQ more and i'll keep laughing.

Yup, the return policy is 14 days, so you definitely fall within that. Just call them up!

See I am really angry too, but I still love my iPhone so its not that bad. I am not mad that there was a price drop so quickly, I am mad at how large the price drop was. It makes me feel like they were just gouging us early adopters. I understand paying more at first but like its been said a 33% drop in just over 2 months is insane. I mean sure its a great idea to attract new customers to the product, but it really does a lot too make the current customers angry.

Exactly. $50 or $100, not a big deal. $200 in 2 months? Oye! This would have been much better timed at Christmas. But this will certainly help them make their 1 million sold goal...$299 for 4gb and $399 for 8gb...genius!

So, are you suggesting the iPhone(s) you went out and purchased for $599 or whatever were not worth the price?

The price today is irrevlevant to your purchase a week ago, a month ago, or two months ago. If your just bitching about a price drop then your just a whiner. Look, either it was worth purchasing then or it wasn't. If you were buying into a FAD then you were just being stupid as that what FADs are about, abusing people's irrational lust for something.

What this means is you won't look like a fool anymore for paying $600 for a phone as other people will have them too and no one will be able to tell the difference.

What do you think Apple is all about? Happy go lucky feel good and flowers? Hell No. Steve Jobs has brought Apple back into play by exploiting the arrogance of many Apple customers against them. He knows there is a diehard contingent out there who will jump at any new offering made. Heck, I just bought my first Mac, an iMac from a guy who openly stated he was only selling his less than 1 year old upgraded iMac because new ones were out!

Apple is simply making good business choices by readily using an available cash source, that being rabid, nearly irrational fans, of the brand. I can point out one or two people who have iPhones at work who truly could not afford them but they were so convinced they needed them they bought them.

If your upset at the price drop then be mad at yourself. You have no one else to blame. Your basically admitting it wasn't worth the money you paid and yet you have the audacity to blame Apple for this?

This is such a sweet moment. All those Apple fanboys bragging about how great their new phone is and it is so much better and how those who dont have it are out of the loop.

Well thats the price you pay for having to be on the bleeding edge of technology.

The simple fact is, if Apple would have come out in June and said, we are releasing the iPhone in September for $399 or you can buy it now, 2 months ahead of time for $200 more, most of the same morons who waited in line for a phone that didnt have a supply shortage would have still bought it anyways.

Why? Obviously it was worth $600 a pop when you bought them. Is it somehow worth "less" now just because the retail price has dropped?

Consider the $400 a "Fanboy Tax"

Yes.

Also, if you purchased with a credit card, many offer price protection. It is usually 60 days.

I think that the $600 price point has 2 benefits. One, it makes them more money, but two, it sets it up so that not everyone will buy one. Think about it, how many more people would have gotten an iphone on launch day if they were priced at $400?

I don't think that Apple wanted to be the company that unveils this product "This thing is so awesome, you will look downright lame in comparison" and then not be able to provide any one that wanted one with the Awesome. By pricing it at $600 they ensured that only people that were willing to pay that much would show. If they had priced it at $400, they would have needed (by simple extrapolation) 33% more phones(this number is probably about right, maybe higher maybe lower). That might have been hard to do, and so they would ahve had to send people home without.

Like Pabster said, is the phone now worth less to you? You obviously were fine with spending that kind of money on it, and I can appreciate being annoyed, but Apple did not do this to go directly after its consumers, they probably wanted to price it at this point all along, but needed to make sure that there was a market for it, and that people would be more than willing to pay that price. Think about it, had it failed, they could have shrugged it off as any number of things (Well, we obviously over-estimated the value)
