Steve just said so. I never want to hear about this from the haters again. Thank you.

You'll still hear about plenty of other gripes of <insert device here>. No need to worry. :)

Nice, 7 dedicated background APIs.

First is audio streaming - pandora being demoed!
VoIP - Skype demo, Hmm double sized status bar...
Background location - keep your GPS tracking while you switch apps.
Push notifications, now local - no server needed, local apps can push notices
Fast switching - send apps to the background and use 0 CPU

I don't know what the other 2 were.... oh Push/Local/Task complete were three different ones..

Back to the tentpoles:
  • Folders!! FINALLY!!! :D
  • Enhanced Mail - yay, much needed upgrade to mail. unified inbox, multiple exchange, threading, better attachment handling (3rd party apps)
  • iBooks - on the phone, syncs with iPad purchases.
  • Enterprise - secure data, device management, encryption, wireless app distribution, Exchange 2010, VPN
  • Game Center - social gaming network
  • iAd - built in advertising platform, very interactive, videos, almost like mini-apps
Looking hot so far... I really hope this is going to work on 1st gen iPhones... damn looks like it's not. :(

Bah... I'm still mad that my iPhone 3G didn't come with cut and paste out of the box.

I'll just need to find something new to complain about now, like at&t not offering iPhone tethering :)

My iPhone has had it for years, yeah so what I had to Jailbreak it, I mean people with Androids Root it so they can do shit with it. But apparently that's not a minus, probably because Android isn't an Apple product.

With what you said said, I never use Multitasking on my iPhone, ever.

I used the Backgrounder jailbreak app specifically for Pandora. Nice that the iPhone will finally be able to do this (and other "basic" things like changing the wallpaper) without having to jailbreak.

So is this one of those things like MMS and cut and paste that for years, the iPhone faithful kicked and screamed about how much it didn't matter, and now that the iPhone does it, it will be such a killer feature?

No question haters should be silenced on this one.

Its fvcking genius to discover how to do something like this in this day and age, which if I'm not mistaken, is somewhere in the middle of the Palaeolithic Era.

Wow. Now people can STFU about this missing feature and keep pretending the lack of Flash is a major minus.

Microsoft looks stupid as fuck right now for limiting multi-tasking on Windows Phone 7 to copy Apple, rather than having a mind of their own.

It begins...its "stupid as fuck" to limit multitasking on WP7. And yet it wasn't "stupid as fuck" for Apple to do it while everyone else allowed it? Or are you admitting that it was, indeed, "stupid as fuck" all of these years?

Anyway, I could comment more on this post, but I'm not going to feed the troll (in fact, I will not reply to you again, chris, so feel free to spew some more crap if you'd like)

I'd also guess this method of multitasking, via managed APIs, will provide for better battery life by backgrounding just the relevant processes and not the whole program (GUI, ads, etc...).

Looks like multitasking is for 3GS only. No support for earlier iPhone / iPod hardware.

Oh, wait... it looks like multi-tasking will only be available for the 3GS, so us 3G users will still be stuck without it.

Oh, and it really sucks if you're a first gen iPhone user... it looks like you can't upgrade at all! Burn!

Good, it looks like I can go back to hating Apple again for reasons OTHER than lack of Flash and at&t tethering support :)

No.. the iPhone WILL have multitasking.

Mindboggling it's gone this long without it considering Jailbreaking showed it was obviously possible.

In the meantime, I'll just keep using my Pre that has the perfect multi-tasking system already in place.

this is why i dont support apple. it's really sneaky how steve plays. first there are the excuses as to why the iphone doesnt have this and that. the solution has always been the same though: upgrade!

I bought a 1g Touch the 2nd week it came out, I've been able to get every update up unto the current 3.1.3. Do you really expect the updates to come forever? I can't think of any other PMP's that have had this long a life when it comes to updates from the maker. If the solution has always been "upgrade" why haven't I had to upgrade in almost 4 years? You fail at hating. And guess what? I still don't HAVE to upgrade, *IF* this rumor (it's just a rumor) is true, I still don't HAVE to upgrade to a new iPhone as I can already multitask due to JB. I'm sure you're one of the ones who would expect Apple to still support the 1g iPhones in 2020 huh?

I guess it doesn't look like a rumor based on the live blogs of the event. But, if you've had the phone for four years, now is as good a time as any to start thinking about an upgrade.
