iPhone / iTunes libraries / Two Macs / two Apple IDs cluster EFF

Okay, here's the deal....

I have an Apple ID with an older email (ID 1) I want to phase out. With this Apple ID I've set up an iTunes library on my hack (computer 1), and with this iTunes library I've synced my iPhone/downloaded and paid for apps, etc.

I set up ANOTHER Apple ID (ID 2), and assigned it to the OSX App store on my new MBP (computer 2). Luckily, no purchases there, not even free ones (I want to clear all this up first).

So the question: What I want to do is take all the apps (and other backup stuff from my iPhone, like texts and configurations. Music isn't important) off my iPhone, get them on the iTunes library on my my MBP and associated with the ID 2 so I can move forward with that one.

Then I'll be able to make OSX and iOS app store purchases with this new Apple ID, on my new laptop and be happy. I'll then wipe the hack, reinstall, and use the new Apple ID for that -- although there'll be no need to sync the iPhone to it.

There are also some weird other issues dealing with the differences between an Apple ID, an iTunes ID, etc. For what it's worth, both products (iPhone and MBP) are "registered" with the newer ID, so that's good. I also did something funky -- I'm not entirely sure what, I'll need to check -- with the periods in the gmail address. Which is to say, I think my Apple ID (#2) has NO periods in the gmail, but the iTunes email DOES, and Apple considers those two things different.

Or something.

Help!?

I don't believe there is a way to transfer purchases from one id to another.

you can however transfer all the purchases you made under 1st id to the itunes library in the macbook, and use the new ID from now on. updates to apps purchase under the 1st id you still need to know the login and password though.

You'll have to authorize the new machine with both the old and new accounts. This way you can still use the old songs.

Any reason you can't change the old ID to your new e-mail address and continue to use it (changing and abandoning the new account)?

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think things are working. I just "Transferred Purchases" from my iPhone to the new library, logged in as the new Apple ID. That worked, and I've synced a couple of times. The music on the iPhone is immaterial. I don't ever really use it anyway.

As I mentioned, I've never bought music from iTunes, so it's just a matter of physically moving the MP3 files from the old system to the new one. That part is easy. I was just worried about the purchased apps, but like I said, I think that's working. I haven't bought any new apps, and I'm wondering what happens to my apps on my iPhone if I log out of that iTunes account and into my new one. Hopefully that'll be fine.

And as for changing the email address, not shockingly, Apple doens't let you do that. it just says "make a new one".
