iPhone Issue

For the past 6 months I have been having an issue with my iphone. On every single phone call I can hear this loud tone/buzz in the background of all my calls. It does not matter where I am - home, work, out, etc or where I am calling (landline, cell) I can hear this tone as well as the other person on the call.

I have had the iphone replaced 3 times because of this issue and also have had the sim card replaced. Still no luck. I got to the point where I called AT&T and said I was going to cancel my service if this issue was not fixed.

I spent about a hour on the phone with AT&T tech support trying to figure out what the issue was. I had told the tech that I highly doubt it is a hardware issue as the phone was replaced 3 times and every phone is having the same issue. AT&T said it was not a problem on their end as everything was showing up ok.

We finally came to a solution as to what the problem is. When the wifi is enabled on the phone this tone can be heard. Once the wifi is turned off then all calls are clear. I tested it out on a couple calls and I did not hear the tone. I just called my wife before and heard the tone in the background when I realized the wifi was on. As soon as I turned it off the tone went away. Is this something that everyone is experiencing with their iphones? I find it highly annoying to hear this tone and find it annoying to have to switch the wifi off every time I want to place a call.

That is very odd. I do occasionally hear a tone when calling a landline (I don't think it has ever happened when calling another cell). Come to think of it, I think the only time I ever hear the tone is when I am at home, which of course means I'm on wifi. It's a very rare occurrence though. I have no idea why it happens to you all the time.

I think your ears are too good. Are you part canine?

I have used many iPhones and have never had that problem.

I dont think so. People on the other line can hear it as well.

Interference from something you're using?

I have no idea. It doesn't matter where I am I can still hear the tone. I can be outside, inside, at work, home, in a store and the tone is there. Very strange :(

Is this calling more than 1 number? Do you work & live in the same area?

It can be any number that I call. Whether its my home number, a cell number or a 800 number I hear the tone. I work in NYC and live on Long Island but it doesnt matter where I am I still get the tone.

I had turned the wifi off last night at work and made a call and I still heard the tone so I don't think that it solved the issue.

No, there are 2 other people that have them but they are 3G and mine is not. Also, the tone is heard everywhere not just at home and at work.

I had the wifi off last night and I still heard the tone so I don't think that was the issue.

I have a friend in Las Vegas that complains about the same problem.

Has he solved the problem yet? If so, how? What has apple/AT&T done about it?

Yes, but you should ask them to turn 3G off, and see if they have the problem. They would be on edge then, just like you.

Made a mistake, my friend has an echo on her phone. Everything she says is repeated in her phone. Replaced the Sim and replaced the phone and the echo remains.
