Let me start by saying I know nothing about iphones.

I need to restore my wifes iphone because it is having all kinds of issues (battery barely holds charge, slow, etc.). So, I took it into the geniuses at aplle store and they said I need to restore it fresh first to see if that helps.

I've backed up her contacts. I've also chosen the Transfer Purchases option and they are all on her PC (not sure where they are stored).

So, when I Restore it, how do I get the purchased songs/apps back on the phone?

OK, well it didn't do what the guy said anyway. I wanted to completely restore it to stock form. No contacts, no apps, etc. After it did it's restore, it even asked me if I wanted to set it up as a new phone or restore from backup. I chose new phone. But when it restored, it had all the apps, etc. that it had before.

The main issue was with charging the phone so I will have to wait to see if it's fixed. If not, how can I completely restore it to the way it was when I bought it?

The guy there noticed several apps that might have crashed and said something in there could be causing the problem. I just want to get rid of all that crap and see if it starts acting better.

Chances are itunes synced all the apps and contacts after it did the full restore. So it did the full restore but then immediately put everything on again. I think it does this by default and you have to disable auto-sync if you don't want it to do that. How old is the phone? iPhone batteries don't last too long, so if it's older than 2 years the battery is probably just dying. I don't think a restore would take care of battery problems personally. I've never heard of a battery issue that wasn't a hardware problem.

thanks guys. Good news is the phone is way more responsive. And now, it at least charges. Not sure how long it will hold that charge but this is better than it was. Phone is less than 1 yr old.

The guy ran diagnostics on it but said the battery tested fine??????

So the best thing to do is disable auto - sync and restore again?

Not necessarily... like I said itunes really DID do a full restore but then put stuff on it. Disabling auto sync won't make it restore any more than it already did, but it would allow you to pic which apps get put back on. Again, I highly doubt that's the problem.
