.09 percent may seem like an extremely small marketshare but when you consider that the iPhone has only been selling for 5 months and for most of that time was in one ? albeit large ? market (the U.S.), that share is amazing. Add another .01% for the iPod touch and Apple mobile platform is one out of every thousand pageviews across the Internet.

The WindowsCE platform - all of the Windows mobile platform devices put together - only managed 66% of iPhones market share. How many WinCE devices are out there? According to Gartner, MS and its partners shipped over three million Windows Mobile devices in Q1 2007. They've been selling WindowsCE devices since 1996 - over 10 years.

In under two quarters, Apple's handheld platform has passed Microsoft's over a decade-old mobile platform in terms of browser use.

I'm sure most site admins are developing mobile versions of their sites to grab more users...come on AT

WTF are you talking about? The thing is tiny. Especially compared to other smart phones.

It works pretty well on the iPhone, although if there are a lot of nested quotes it sucks.

That's me. I actually updated the code to make the nested quote text be of alternating colours, but I'm not sure which browsers that actually works for. Doesn't on my BlackBerry 8700.

I've developed a couple of mobile device-friendly adaptations of websites now. It's a bitch to test, but thankfully I have access to a pretty large array of devices from the R&D department at work.

Alternating colors work on my 8800.

Weird! I just tested it out on a BlackBerry 8800 and it didn't show the colours. Well, just so long as it works for some people. :p I'm stumped as to how to otherwise differentiate nested quotes, since my BlackBerry by default displays all text in one font colour, one font style and removes indentation.

The web browsing on the iPod Touch / iPhone is soooo much better than on a windows mobile device. Safari can render real webpages. So far my T-mobile Shadow has choked trying to load pizza huts website.

Indeed. My colleague has the iPod Touch and using a rich browser with the ability to magnify the content makes it much more usable. We all have blackberries and I use it quite often to browse websites, but it's a pain to do most simple tasks.

I think the iPod Touch is amazing, but I'll never buy it due to its non-replaceable battery. They got me once on my iPod Mini whose battery died after 1 year. I'd also prefer if the screen utilized the entire surface, without the black bars on the top/bottom.

It's as small as a Moto Q and thinner than a Razr...I don't think you can get much smaller than that and still be usable!

Companies simply don't understand that it's not about technology, it's about usability. Why is McDonalds a billion-dollar company? Is it because their food is so high-tech - enriched with vitamins - and nutritious? No, it's because they're convenient. The iPhone's browser is convenient. It's simple to use and it works. Therefore, people use it. You can have every feature under the sun available on your device, but if people can't use it easily it's just not going to be very successful.

I do agree with you for the most part, but the reason most people bought the iPhone when it first came out was for the "wow" and "cool" factor.

I want one too;)

Good for Apple. They are forcing the market to adapt and innovate.

I've been with Windows Mobile for a few years and I'll wait for the iPhone to support 3G and push email before I think about it.
