I havent been able to back up my iPhone for quite some time now. Tonight, I have given it 3 hours, and its stuck at the same spot.

I already tried the google route, deleted all pics/videos, deleted certain problem apps that were known to cause hangups (ScoreCenter), no go.

Hoping someone here has some miracle trick to get the backup working, so when I upgrade to iPhone 4 I wont have to transfer all my stuff <gasp> manually!!!

This is where it gets stuck:

The fix for me, when a backup was at abour 25% after ***8 hours*** - was to remove the bad hard drive in my PC. It was my G: drive, not even close to the system drive. It wasn't even being written to, nor had it been formatted. It was just putzing with everything.

I've also seen a fix to be:
1. stop the phone from syncing
2. Uncheck "sync" apps, (this effectively uninstalls every single app)
3. GO into iTunes and remove backups. Also go manually check and remove any files from the directory to which it backs up.
4. Sync -> backup - this will be a "longish" backup.
5. put back apps one at a time.

It didn't work for me as above.

Yes Its jailbroken.

I unchecked "sync" for everything: music, apps, movies, videos, photos, everything.

Cant be the HD, I tried my PC, my work PC, my macbook. Some of them with fresh installs of iTunes (no previous backups)

I would seriously consider wiping it and starting from scratch. I once ended up in the same situation when jailbreaking - I never figured out what I did to cause it.
