iPhone app "Air Mouse"

This app seriously changed my life, just thought I would share.

I've got a Windows server set up in my living room that my roommates and I use for movies, music, etc. It's hooked straight up to our DLP, and it works great.

It was really annoying using a corded mouse and keyboard, so I went out and got a wireless mouse/keyboard combo. The thought was good, but it is such a huge friggin hassle to to pull out a full keyboard and mouse to do anything, not to mention the fact that theres no mousepad, bluetooth messes up, etc.

Then I found the AIR MOUSE app on the iPhone. Holy shit. You install a tiny application on your PC (or Mac) that runs in the background. When you launch the app on your iPhone, it automatically detects and connects to any PC that has the application installed. Your phone then turns into a wireless trackpad, keyboard, media controller, etc.

The thing just works perfect. No lag, ever (it goes over your local wireless). Typing is super easy. You can change songs without even scrolling. It's just awesome.

(There's also a feature that allows you to use the accelerometer to control the cursor, although I don't use it personally).

haha, if I needed something like that, i'd definitely use it!

Yeah. And the thing is, we have people over all the time. So when I've got a house full of people and the song stops, pulling out the keyboard and mouse and dealing with all that shit is so annoying, total buzz kill.

This way I can even be outside on the deck, pull out my phone, hit next, and bam. Theoretically, I could even VPN into my home network and use it, but it would make more sense to use VNC at that point 🙂

Air Mouse is one of my favorite apps. I use it to control the PC hooked up to my TV for streaming Netflix, etc.

I use it as a media centre remote. It's not perfect but gets the job done. Too bad it doesn't support Wake-on-Lan, then it would really be a kick ass app.

i use it and it works great! got it when the app store turned "1" and apple put out promotions on certain best selling apps like air mouse. it works wonderfully.
