I just got a really good deal on a UK iPhone which is currently locked to O2 sim cards.

If I decide to keep it I will be using an 02 pay as you go sim. However I am most likely going to move to Canada in about a year.

Is it possible to unlock it to Canadian networks? Are there any others ways to use Canadian networks without paying large monthly fees?

Thanks a lot, just looking to see whether I should just sell it instead...

As intogamer wrote all iPhones are software unlockable right now. The process is pretty painless and works for both Mac and Windows. If you want to undo the unlock you just do an iTunes "restore" to 1.1.3 to return it back to standard.

The only problem that I have heard is that, if you have a phone newer than the end of Nov. 2007, the the " locate me" button on Google maps doesn't work. The reason behind this has to do with the backdoor that they use to get into the newer phones - they downgrade the firmware below the one that does the locate me function.

Check out the tutorials at iClarified.com.

Congrats! :)

For the locate me issue, there's two apps on the installer called "Navizon" and "LocateMe" that attempts to implement it. The problem with both is that their databases don't seem to always respond. Navizon seems to work a bit better. If you can't find these, you may need to add more sources - I think they are under "Community Sources".

Ill give Navizon a try, although I dont really use it much anyways. The other problem I have found is Youtube not working, it seems that this is another issue for some - any ideas if there is a fix? (I am currently looking on iPhone forums etc.)

Thanks again PM :)

If you look further down this forum, there's another thread that starts with the title jailbreaking the iPhone. There's a solution to the youtube issue in there. I would link it but I, again, there's no cut n paste on iPhone's (yet).
