So I have been an iPhone user for several years now, and I have been quite happy.

This morning I am going over to upgrade my iPhone 5s to something, and these two are the two contenders. I have decided that I do want one of these phablets, I just cannot decide between the two, especially since the local store does not have an iPhone 6s or 6s+ to demo to try out the new pressure sensitive touch options. They do have the edge plus to tinker with.

I know they both have their pros and cons, and I am not super opposed to changing from iOS, but I know I would miss out on imessage, facetime, and of course lose access to any paid apps (which are not many). Mostly I dont want to miss out on read reciepts as far as imessage goes, and I sometimes facetime when I am working away from home to see my toddler.

Has anyone had any time using both of these outside of just playing with them in the store, and what would be the best choice?

Thanks for any input.

From your description, it sounds like you actually use iOS specific features, so why give those up? Go with the 6s+.

Also I would get the Nexus 6P over any Samsung phone if going Android.

While I am an Android user 90% of the time, this time I would have to agree with going iphone 6s+. IMO, samsungs latest phones actually took too much out of their lineup to consider recommending. The 6s+ for the camera alone and being that you are ensconced on the ios system you are better off staying there.

Like others have said, you have no reason to leave iOS. My question is since you're coming from the 5S, are you sure you want a phablet as it's a pretty big jump in size.

The only real advantage the S6 Edge + has over the 6S Plus is packaging - it's noticeably shorter and narrower and much lighter (153g vs. 192g).

The normal "default" choice would be the regular 6S.

It is much easier to transfer all your apps to a new iphone than it is to switch to android. I'm not sure how long the process takes for iCrap, but for android you can have all your old apps on a new phone and actually have it looking just like your old phone in basically around 10 minutes. If you're going to switch operating systems then there should be a good reason and it does not sound like there is one.

I owned the regular s6 edge - the iPhone wins, hands down, unless depreciation speed is your top metric.

I own both phones, the S6 Edge Plus for personal, and the Iphone 6S Plus for work. I also owned the Note 5 for a short while before swapping to the S6 Edge Plus. By far, I prefer the Samsung over the iPhone. Now while I am not an accomplished photographer, nor do I fiddle with ISO settings and the like, the clarity in the pictures on my Samsung far exceed the quality of the photos of the iPhone. Of course this is all subjective, so there will always be differences of opinion.

I never used the iMessage feature, and I only Facetime'd once, so those are options I couldn't care less about. I can always use Skype if I needed to video conference in a pinch.

I don't have a huge issue with the S6 Edge Plus in terms of battery life, but then again, I am not a huge power user. The battery life of the iPhone exceeded the life of the S6 Edge Plus by a noticeable margin.

I prefer the display of the Samsung, as well as the fare available in the Google Play store, and ease of using certain apps, versus what Apple offers, personally.

The fingerprint sensor seemed to be a hair quicker on the iPhone versus the Samsung phones, if you do decide to use the sensor at all.

I do like the desktop optimization abilities of the Samsung phones far beyond what Apple had to offer. I like being able to rid my desktop of any icons, and drop them into the quickbar at the bottom in folders. I could not do that on the iPhone with all icons, although maybe I did not search for a solution hard enough.

I prefer the keyboard on the Samsung phones over the iPhone, even with the third party keyboard applications available to me on the iPhone store.

Take it for what you will, I am only but one person, and I prefer the Android platform by a decent amount. I returned my 6S Plus, and ordered the new LG V10 just today to give a whirl on my work line.

WELCOME KOREAN LOYALIST!

Ignore this poster with 75 posts, he's wrong on everything, especially if he's recommending the very niche v10.

Thank you for all of the input. I just got a new 6s plus activated, and am restoring my icloud backup to it right now.

I was really torn, but no one I know owns either, so I thought I would ask people who actually know, so thank you very much.

I think I am going to like it, the larger size I actually like. Looking forward to tinkering with it today.

I had to get the Gold version though, as it was all they had in stock. But since it will be stuck in a case to protect it from my 2yo son, I suppose I don't mind getting it in gold.

This poster probably has somewhere in the vicinity of 20,000 posts, but my old account by the name of 'Stylewar' dates back to 1999 or so, and I have no way of retrieving it. :)

As well, I did not "recommend" the V10, I said I was trying it out. Reading comprehension is a lost art anymore. ;)

EDIT: Alas, my former post count from my Stylewar account is far off from what I had imagined, it is only a total of about 650. I must have it confused with another hardware site. I have however, been a member of this site since November 2000, FWIW. :D

I didn't find his post overly biased like our famous Samsung propagandist. Is it really a stretch for someone to say they prefer the camera and display on the S6 Edge Plus? You can make a strong case for it being the very best you can buy this year.

The other stuff seems just personal usage statements.

Congrats - I actually like the Rose Gold quite a bit.

Apologies old timer, I jumped the gun. Your point about the s6 having a better keyboard seemed so bogus after owning one, the keyboard on the s6 edge was awful!

I hope this won't come off as condescending, but if you have to ask the question then probably the right course of action is stay with the iPhone.

I don't think it does, I was asking mostly since it has been about 4 years since owning an android phone for personal use, and was just wondering if there was a compelling reason to make the switch that I was not seeing after reading about both of these.

I have been using my new gold iPhone 6s Plus all afternoon though, and I love it.

Depends on your needs. If you just browse the net and take selfies, go for the Galaxy s6 edge.
If you want to game go for the iphone 6s plus.

It's such a shame. Even previous Samsung fans have little to recommended Samsung for. Between those options and needs, there's not much that favors Samsung.

They wanted to become Apple-lite, and so they have. But in a choice between Apple-lite and actual Apple... just go with Apple.

True. That's why I'm staying with my note 4 forever.
