Summary: The display is average. I sound harsh below but remember this is Apple's Flagship Phone. We have had years to perfect IPS display tech and any calibration or QC flaws in this price range should be frowned upon.
  • It doesn't hit anywhere near the D65 (6504K) standard; at 7200K is not too bad though.
  • Gamma is dark at the low end resulting in crushed blacks.
  • Red & Blue don't follow the 2.2 gamma past 90% resulting in Blue being too dark and Red clipping the last 5 shades.
  • Contrast is average @ 1200:1. This is disappointing because last years iPhone 6 had a 1600:1 contrast ratio.
  • Color accuracy is average when using D75 as the dE reference. If D65 was used as the reference it would be borderline bad.
  • The display has quite noticeable dark spots in-between the LED's at the top of the screen.

Measures we're taken with a i1Display Pro/ColorMunki Display with the Display set to 200 cd/m2

  • Contrast @ 201 cd/m2: 1225:1
    (Black 0.165 cd/m2, White 201.542 cd/m2)
  • Contrast @ 571 cd/m2: 1256:1
    (Black 0.454 cd/m2, White 570.728 cd/m2)

  • Grayscale delta E (D75, CIE2000): 1.35 Avg., 2.29 Max.
  • Color Temperature Average: 7316K (Min. 7101K, Max. 9891K)
  • Average Gamma: 2.19 (Min. 2.087, Max. 2.31)
  • GCD Classic Patches delta E (D75, CIE2000): 1.38 Avg., 2.43 Max.

  • Primary/Secondary Colors delta E (D75, CIE2000): 1.30 Avg., 2.09 Max.
    Red Saturation delta E (D75, CIE2000): 1.45 Avg., 1.95 Max.
    Green Saturation delta E (D75, CIE2000): 1.19 Avg., 1.78 Max.
    Blue Saturation delta E (D75, CIE2000): 2.25 Avg., 2.48 Max.
    Yellow Saturation delta E (D75, CIE2000): 0.72 Avg., 2.38 Max.
    Cyan Saturation delta E (D75, CIE2000): 1.91 Avg., 2.09 Max.
    Magenta Saturation delta E (D75, CIE2000): 1.01 Avg., 1.78 Max.

Thanks for the measurements. Lol at the dead pixel...

I agree that when a product is this expensive, all the LCDs should be factory QA'd for dead pixels and calibrated to be damn near perfect. Any idea what the sRGB gamut is on it overall? I hope it's at least equal to the iPhone 6...
