I went to purchase a 128gb 6 (verizon flavor) at best buy and they wanted $50 over what everyone is charging. Screw that.

So I called up a verizon store and to ask what their off contract price was...$850. I went in and waited about 40 minutes to purchase and the sales rep tells me I cannot leave the store without them activating it (for a fee) and running a credit check. F verizon too.

I'll pick one up from the apple store. They are much less likely to pull this shit.

Mine doesn't seem hot, but that might be the case that's blocking the heat.

Nope. My phone is still nude. I have been desperately searching retail stores for a case I don't hate. Being EXTREMELY careful with my $1,050 phone in the meantime.

Apple's case is "FAIL" because it doesn't protect the bottom edge at all.

I'm holding it in front of the AC vents every moment I can when I'm parked in the car and using it.

Strangely, I'm charging at home now and used it over an hour and everything is fine.

just went to the verizon store to check out the normal ip6.

i'm 100% going to return my plus and get the ip6. the size of it is perfect. i can text 1 handed easily on it just like i can with my normal ip4, that i can't do with the plus.

i feel that the ip6 is TOO thin though. like with the slippery metal back on it, the phone felt slippery just holding it my hand due to that and the thinness of it. so i think when i do get the 6 i'm going to get one of those neo hybrid cases so protect and add a little bit of bulk to it so that it feels like i'm actually holding onto it tight and it won't slip out of my hand.

but they told me to return my phone by calling in to support and getting an order put in that way because they don't have them in store right now.

You try the "reachability" feature of the iPhone 6? It really makes the Plus a lot more usable.

I mean that my case might be stopping me from feeling the heat, because my case always feels pretty cool. Albeit, I may not be doing as much with it. I do know that after I backed up my 5S, I could feel the heat through the case, but after I restored my back up to the 6+, I couldn't feel any heat.

Apple's case is "FAIL" because it doesn't protect the bottom edge at all.

Agreed. It was a bummer to see that, but Apple is either hit or miss with their cases. My iPad 4 case works well enough, but its edges are way too sharp, and the case digs into your skin.

I'm surprised that Best Buy is able to get away with that. Isn't Apple really, really picky about how people sell their devices? I mean... that's one of the reasons why you'll see stores like Target offer gift cards. (It also forces you to spend the money there instead of offering the same amount as a discount.)

I wonder if more app developers will start implementing the swipe navigation? You can swipe from the left toward the center while in the Settings app to go back rather than reach to the top left.

i'd be willing to guess that it's just a new delegate function added to the navigation controller that would just be called and you tell it what to do when that motion is executed. usually things like this are very easy to do in ios from a dev standpoint.

Is there absolutely no way to carry Gmail Active Sync over from my iPhone 5 to iPhone 6? I did an encrypted backup / restore and pretty much everything came over correctly except Gmail just doesn't seem to work on my iPhone 6 now :(

Google :(

It's been in the os since iOS 7 got released. Surprised it hasn't been adopted. Tapatalk has had it for almost 9 months. ESPN has had it at least six. Flupboard uses it etc. there are quite a few that do.

Now the new drop down setting of double tapping on the home button I've found to be an os level function.

Google :(

so what i had to do, was i just deleted my gmail account and recreated it and it worked.

the gmail account on my old phone (ip4) was the exchange setup, and apparently sometime last year gmail stopped supporting that. so when it transferred over to the new phone, it was trying to use a new exchange account and it simply doesn't work anymore. when google turned it off, any existing accounts would work.

something to that effect.

Yes, it will work if you recreate it as a Gmail account, but by doing this you will lose push email. You have to download the Gmail app to get that back.

Yeah. EAS has BS per-user licensing. Microsoft has to activate per-device with a unique device ID.

I haven't checked out the 6 yet, but I did check out the 6 Plus. Other than it being a bit slippery, I had no issues with it. It's VERY fast. Camera is awesome - very sharp & way faster autofocus than my 5S. I felt that the autofocus went downhill from the 4S (noticeably), so that's nice.

Anyone notice any display uniformity issues? I have a slight dim area on my screen about where the power button is. I'm considering exchanging it for a new one.

ugh just ran to the verizon store to return my plus, and realized that i left my bad at home with the box and receipt in it...

wasted 30 minutes.

also, anyone know what kind of supply the verizon stores are getting on these things? it appears that quite a few apple stores around me have the phone i want, but i don't know how long it will take my verizon account to show my upgrade eligibility after i return it, as letting me upgrade at the discounted price. if it happens right away i'll just go get it from the apple store, but it would be nice to just do it all in 1 transaction at the store.

you seem to be having one problem after another in this.

Most of the time if you do the exchange in store it's immediate. If you do a return, it can take a billing cycle for the upgrade to re-appear.

yeah it's pretty annoying that they keep giving me the run around. first online chat told me to go to the store. then i go to the store and they tell me to call in. then i call in and they tell me that i can mail it in to them, but i will have to wait until they receive it and all that before they can update my account, so doing it at the store would be a better option, so back to the store i went.

obviously the exchange would be immediate in store if they had the item in stock, but considering it just came out and is hard to come by, chances are they won't have one in stock at the store. the store i went to last night didn't have any in stock, other than the 128gb (not sure what color) but i don't want a 128gb.

there are about 5 apple stores around me though that have the ip6 64gb in space gray though, which is the one i want.

:( That must be why the restore can't make it just work.
Now to figure out what to do... switch to Microsoft or Apple or just put up with 15 minute polling. Not using the Gmail App, like having the unified mailbox.

I'm in the same boat with EAS on my gmail account. Such a pain that google dropped support.

I have to say this is my first experience with iOS and I'm very 50-50 on it. I think the contacts and email are subpar compared to how my old Lumia 920 did it but the number of decent apps and the performance of the apps is top notch. Probably going to stick with it in hopes of Microsoft improving over time.

After using the 6+ for the last few days, I really like it. It's big, but it feels more natural if you use it for a bit vs. just checking it out at a store. The battery life is also pretty awesome. I recommend the Spigen Neo Hybrid case, other than the known issue with button sensitivity. They're shipping out "button stabilizers" which supposedly help, so that may be resolved soon.

I'm glad Apple invented the phablet. Having a small phone was the thing two weeks ago. Im so glad Apple showed me the error of my ways. Now I know big phones are where it's at.

Has anyone actually said this?

People who dislike Apple are just upset Apple made a phablet that people actually wanted. Perhaps, it has less to do with the size of the screen and more to do with not having a fracture, manufacturer made garbage unremovable app filled, Android OS. Or, maybe they want a phablet that lasts longer than 20 minutes before needing to replace the battery.

Saying stuff like this is just as ridiculous as what OilFieldTrash said.

For the record, we keep getting more and more uninstallable apps on iOS. I'm up to two folder pages now of Apple apps that I don't need or ever use.
