won't people accidentally press the power button when talking on the phone (if holding in right hand)?

This may come as a shock, but other phones have had side mounted power buttons for years and years. It has not been a problem. 😉

And 1GB of RAM is most definitely an issue. It doesn't take a "bajillion" tabs in Safari to notice the lag and reloading.

I ended up having to get a Verizon rep to activate my phone. I tried to activate by phone twice, and it didn't work. I tried to do it online, but Verizon wanted to send me a verification code to one of my two numbers: the phone I'm upgrading, which the new and old were both turned off, and my iPad, which can't receive texts.

Eh, I don't really think I need it at this point. Although, my hands are fairly large.

When I was using it earlier, I noticed that I was using two hands, but it didn't bother me at all. I thought about it for a second, and realized that when I would be using my 5S with one hand, the other would just be relaxed at my side. In other words, using two isn't really inconveniencing me at this point.

Although, the most difficult test will probably be trying to use it while working out. 😛

One thing that's proving to be the hardest to get used to? The position of the power button! I keep reaching up top to put the phone to sleep.

You can also take non-grainy photos now! 😉

i didn't have any issues activating on verizon earlier. i just followed the instructions in the packet that came, although i didn't turn off my ip4 while activated, before calling the 1800 number. i didnt have another phone here so i called with that number, followed instructions, turned off my ip4, turned on ip6+, and followed on screen instructions and it worked out no problem. now that i have it all xfered over, i need to send in my ip4 to get $200 verizon credit.

as far as 1 hand, i use my old phone 1 handed a good amount. i'll do it in the car sometimes when at a stop light if i have to check something real quick, or while i'm just walking around with something in my other hand. not sure if i will be able to do that with this phone.

still going to give it at least a week or two before i make a final decision but i am definitely not 100% keeping this phone yet due to it's size.

was using roomie remote tonight when watching a movie to control my HT and definitely liked the larger real estate on the screen than my ip4.

i also could not get my restored gmail to work with the default mail client, so i had to dl the gmail app to view my mail. not sure wtf the problem is with the default mail client. it looks like everything is fine, with no errors, but i can't send or get any mail.

so i re-added my gmail account, so i now have 2 gmail accounts on here for the same email address. on the first one, that brought over all my contacts (which for some reason aren't exactly the same as the ones i brought in with my 2nd copy of the gmail account - and i know because i could see dupes for a ton of them but not all, until i turned off the contacts on the 2nd gmail account).

so i then turned off everything except the contacts for the first account (where email simply isnt working), and then on the 2nd account i created on the phone (for the same gmail account) i have everything turned on except contacts.

i can send emails via the email app no problem, like if it's just text.

but if i want to send a pic from the photo album, and then go to the email client and send, i hear the whoosh as if it sends but it never goes through. tried like 5x, to me and my wife, and it didnt work.

however if i cancel sending the pic, and it goes to drafts, then send it from the draft box, it works fine.

the 1st account, which was on the phone from the restore, is an exchange account. if i create a new one, that actually works, it's an SMTP account.

so this is kind of a cluster fuck that it won't work for me right now. i hope i can figure something out over the nxt few days. even right now, having 2 accounts on here for the same email address, is pretty ghetto and does not seem like a feasable work around. there should be an easier way to do this. especially since it's not working 100% as expected.

why is the top of the box white / blank?

some weird choices

iphone-6-box.jpg

compared to 5S:

the top of the box has an imprint of the phone that is protruding a little bit. it's not blank.

it's amusing how much shit about apple people complain about.

EDIT:

took that with the counter top and the chef just for RagingBITCH!

A few weeks ago, I was having trouble with 1Password. As part of the tech support, I had to e-mail a diagnostics report from my phone, but my GMail refused to work. I had an old exchange version in there, but when I created a new account, everything worked fine.

I don't know about sending pictures though. I use the web client for GMail.

i ended up just deleting my original gmail account that was transferred over from the backup via the restore. and then after creating the new account with the same email address (which created an SMTP one) it seemed to work fine.

i had some contacts that weren't synced with my gmail at all, so they were brought over from the restore anyways, so i didn't end up losing anything.

glad i just got it figured out.

also i just wanna say i'm a huge fan of touchID. it is one of those conveniences that i just don't want to go without anymore lol. it's just so easy. i only wish i could sign into my bank account app and credit card app with it instead of having to type in a password every time.

Is it really weird for anyone else to go from an app being fairly small to super-sized on the 6 or 6+? It's like when my mom uses a web browser and blows up the font to 1.5x. 😛

TouchID was pretty much the reason why I paid for an out-of-contract upgrade from the 5 to the 5S. I went from requiring a passcode every few minutes to every single time when I put my phone to sleep. At least then, mischievous friends couldn't go around and mess with my phone. 😛

You also get to experience it from the point where it's available in other apps and not just for unlocking and iTunes. That's pretty much the main reason why I switched from KeePass (KyPass in iOS) to 1Password, which is now a freemium app. 1Password on iOS 8 supports TouchID for unlocking your database... and also supports the new extensions to allow password injection into Safari.

I'm reading tons of review of glass screen protectors that are complaining about not being wide enough because of the curse on the front of the screen. My spigen glass protector has been delayed to the 30th but I'm considering canceling it and swapping to a standard protector that can adhere to the curves.

Anyone else having issues with images showing up in group iMessages? I see a big circle that says "Downloading image X.jpg Xkb", but if I click Details to show all the images on the group messaging, I can view the image just fine. I looked through all the settings and I'm stumped :|

Got a 4.7 64gb silver

Device looks good aside from the antenna bands but I can live with that. I think the phone is actually too thin and I would have rather they make the back thicker and flush with camera lens to accommodate a bigger battery. I definitely prefer the way the 5/5s feels especially when using 2 hands.

The extra screen size is worth it over the 5 but I'm definitely glad I picked a regular 6 instead of the 6 plus.

I quit iOS years ago, so I could be off base here.

But I thought Google nixed ActiveSync/Exchange support on iOS a while ago. It's grandfathered in only for devices that had it already set up. New devices have to settle for IMAP, or better yet use the native Gmail app.

You are correct. I had to switch to IMAP when I went from 5 to 5s.

the more and more i use the ip6+, the less and less i like the size.

anyone know if the verizon store has the ip6 on display? i'd like to not have to go to the apple store and verizon store if possible when returning the plus for the smaller one if i don't have to.

... Surprised it was a plain white box for the actual Apple box.

...

Yeah. As far as I can tell, all the 6 Plus boxes are that way. It's like they decided to just go with it after millions of packages were manufactured like that. Makes it hard to sell one new/sealed since the box doesn't show the color of the phone inside.

Maybe you should 1) delete all the Gmail accounts, then 2) log-in to Gmail from a computer with a web browser and make sure your account has IMAP enabled in the settings, and 3) re-add the account on your device (select "Google" as the account type).

Yup. I think Google also lets you use CardDAV protocol to get your contacts, but I think they pulled the support page with the instructions for that.

Anyone else a little disappointed with battery life on their 6? Yesterday other than a few photos, uploading to FB (most over WiFi), I'm down to around 20 some odd % today. It almost seems worse than my battery life on my 4 year old iP4. I've turned off a lot of location services and done some tweaking, but something feels a little off.

Maybe I'm being unrealistic in how long I expect the battery to truly last, but it's like I took a step back in terms of battery life. My iP4 would have more left than this having done the same things.

Battery life on mine seems better than my 5s for sure, but my phone runs incredibly hot - no matter how basic the task. iPhone 6 Plus 128GB here. I need to compare with my brother's; which was purchased on the same transaction.

Well, if it's better than the 5S so far, that's good to hear. Just curious to hear other's thoughts 🙂 Although, the 6+ def has a bigger battery than the 5S.

I believe the writing on the side is in the color of the phone.

Mine doesn't seem hot, but that might be the case that's blocking the heat.

You're using a brand new device that most likely hasn't been properly calibrated. The phone needs to understand how much battery is available to it prior to being able to accurately report how much is left. If it has a vastly underrated value, your battery will appear to drain very fast when it's actually quite full.

Here are some links on that:

just went to the verizon store to check out the normal ip6.

i'm 100% going to return my plus and get the ip6. the size of it is perfect. i can text 1 handed easily on it just like i can with my normal ip4, that i can't do with the plus.

i feel that the ip6 is TOO thin though. like with the slippery metal back on it, the phone felt slippery just holding it my hand due to that and the thinness of it. so i think when i do get the 6 i'm going to get one of those neo hybrid cases so protect and add a little bit of bulk to it so that it feels like i'm actually holding onto it tight and it won't slip out of my hand.

but they told me to return my phone by calling in to support and getting an order put in that way because they don't have them in store right now.
