Interesting. Didn't have a chance to go through the whole thing, but my take is that iOS7 is a step backwards in performance...

I've done multiple browser tests on iOS6 and Android, and Android is definitely far choppier. This guy is making a ton of excuses for Android too.

I've noticed lag on my 5s in several areas. There's noticeable lag and delay when typing in Safari. Also there's lag when using the calculator. And today Safari locked up about 10 seconds before responding to touch as I was ordering the iPad Air at Walmart website. To be fair I noticed the lag on my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet as well. But I was expecting smoother experience on the iOS and iPhone 5s since people make such big deal out of its smoothness. It's pretty smooth but definitely not lag free.

Chrome is absolutely silky on my Nexus 7, but not other Android devices.

Chrome is lagfest on my Nexus 7 (2013). Dolphin is much better but it has different set of problems like weird formatting.

Pinch to zoom is much more complicated when the two data points change rapidly like he did for the 5S. Pinch zoom is much simpler when one of the data points stays the same like he did for the Android device.

Why didn't he test them the same? He either was ignorant or wanted to show Android in a better light.

Yea, I noticed this too, and I own a Nexus 4. There is some definite scroll lag in Chrome, but not all that noticeable, unless it's an image heavy site.

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus is much much worse than the iPhone 5S. Its not even close to being that good,, I get significant performance degradation on the apple homepage let alone the product pages. I guess the Nexus 4/Nexus 5 are quite a bit quicker than my ageing Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I get jumps and jolts if a page is still loading assets at all, running loading in the background is painfully slow. I see similar although not quite as bad performance on the Nexus 7 (first one).

Watching this video just made me think its probably time to get the latest phone especially since I just found out they wont be bringing Kitkat to my phone.

Also I'm not convinced that using two moving points is any more complicated to the OS, any links to show this? I always thought the OS just looks at the relative movement.

I don't have a vid but I did the same test on my iPhone 5. It's super fast when I pinched zoom like the youtuber did for the nexus. If your pinch zoom changes the two points constantly, it's definitely more demanding. This is a flawed video test.

If I could go back to the iO6 look I would. Luckily the A7 is a beast and can handle iOS7 perfectly fine.

That's exactly what iOS7 is. Jony Ive trying to show everyone he is the man. I think he has shown quite the opposite of that.

That iPad 3 video is unfortunately reality. My iPad 1 is a much more fluid device to use than my iPad 3 after updating the later to iOS7. I'm sure that is just a flawed video test too though ...

My Note II is more fluid than both my iPads.

Well I just went to store.apple (SGS3 and Chrome) and it makes no difference if I keep one finger still or have two moving points, it doesn't lag anywhere near what the iPhone does in that video.

Anyway ignoring the pinch to zoom bit the Android phone still does better in that video.

Its not just his fault. Eventually iOS was going to have to start doing a bit more that it was. It was a fairly basic OS that really controlled what was going on it the background and pretty much what you could do in the foreground. Loosening up those controls is going to bleed a bit of performance.

I can agree with that. At the same time, I don't see iOS7 actually doing that much more for me than it was before. If you notice that lag the guy sees when he is typing in a URL in Safari? That is a common thing on my iPad 3 these days. Every time I go to type something in there is a very noticeable pause. Even if the OS is capable of doing more, such a simple task shouldn't create such difficulties.

I think some of this is the 64Bit overhead Anand found. 1GB of RAM with the A7 was a bad idea.

That seems to say that if you open a bunch of apps they can hit your memory harder if they are 64bit apps?

That doesn't seem at all the issue in the OP where one app is open (with one tab).

Pinch Zoom, take your two fingers off the screen and pinch zoom again in another area. Do this multiple times quickly lifting both fingers every time.

Ignoring the pinch zoom bit? You mean the part where the Android scrolls as if its on ice? I'm not a fan of that as I easily miss what I want to scroll to.
