iPhone 5s screen broke.. can't enter pin

So I have a user with a broken 5S, for some stupid reason, if you reboot the phone, it says enter pin and the finger print scanner wont work.

Basically a warranty replacement phone is coming but unless I get the phone unlocked, ie pin entered, itunes can't connect to it to make a backup.

Is the last option swap screen and enter pin to make a backup ? last thing I want to do is let people know I can fix it - endless request to fix broken phones

Install the screen from the new phone into the old phone, unlock, backup. Put the screen back into the new phone.

Naturally, they never backed it up with their own computer, right? If they had, they could sync without entering the password.

I fix these on the side for $, to do it at work and not get paid for it, is a huge waste of my time.

so I will recommend the go to apple store for help method

One might argue that doing it at work you *are* getting paid for it, assuming it's your responsibility to get the data off that phone and set the new one up.

nope, my job is sys admin, not iphone repair. everyone was warn about making backups or paying icloud for it if you bring your own phone. Its not even a company phone, personal phone with company email on it.

my only job is to issue a wipe command before he returns that phone and i did

I think you still have at least two solutions to solve this problem.

1. You can generate an iCloud backup then you can reset the restriction PIN using the downloaded backup.

You can use the iPhone Backup Extractor for this. The solution is described in this tutorial.

1. Download the application.
2. Download the iCloud backup and extract the data from it on your computer.
3. Reset the iPhone (factory reset).

You will have the data on your PC and a clean iPhone.

2. You can also have an alternate solution if the phone was backed up on a computer. The iTunes backup should start even if you have no PIN, as long as the phone was backed up on that computer.

no idea.. this was my thread from over a year ago.. simple as dont drop you home phone and make backups often.. or visit the apple store yourself to get it fix..
