iPhone 5 water damage?

I THINK, its water damage. If not its some kinda random dmg from either bad luck, sleeping with it in my bed/under my body or pillow, or defect.

I used the phone to make a call while it was raining a week or so ago and about two days later, my screen started going wonky. hoping it was a coincidence and I have a shot at using my 1 yr warranty but im not so sure.

anyone experienced anything similar and have any advice?

The screen basically flickers and it slides from the top down over itself over and over. sorta like panning through your screens sideways cept it does it from the top down as if I were pulling down my notifications. That and it will fade out to black and then fade back in with thick grey/white bars vertically on the screen. sound works, touch still works. and when it does come back in for a secon and I can legitimately see my screen it does function (for wow authenticator for example)

Ive had it in rice for 5 days now and I cant tell if its improving or a placebo of sorts.

Should I open it? would water cause this? If I go all the way out to an apple store (20 mi) any shot at an exchange?

Should be enough time in the rice, if its still jacked, go to the Apple store & play dumb.

when they show you the pink stickers inside from water exposure, stop playing dumb and fess up.

Or mention your bathroom doesn't have an exhaust vent, and that it gets steamy when you're on the toilet and your GF is taking a hot shower 🙂

I am in the same boat as you. I have no idea if its water damage. But I cleaned the back of my iPhone 5 with a wet cloth (nothing too crazy) and the next day I noticed what looked like moisture spots behind the screen. I put it in a box of rice for 48 hours and they were mostly gone except for one small dark spot and these strange white spots on the top left corner. Fast forward a week and I noticed the top left corner of my screen is glowing green! and if I use the screen for a long amount of time (10 minutes) I get a huge purple translucent box in the middle.
