I'm usually never this black/white, but it's clear that anyone who sees both and still picks the iPhone5 is under the influence.

I was all Apple in smartphones from iPhone1-4S. Clear and dominant lead. iPhone5 I would only recommend to people who want to be cool by the standards of the last decade, and those who are so enveloped into iTunes that they can't escape.

For everyone else, now is the perfect time to leave with this new, all digital $30 cable. Better hope you don't lose or have someone steal that fancy Lightning cable
I got 4 USB charging cables for $4, and they work on my other devices. I won't be giving up that freedom anytime soon.

And you can get the 30pin knockoff for a few bucks online. You can't with the Lightning cable. I'd rather have a plethora of 30pin devices, use them and migrate to industry standard USB devices after I was done with those.

I ended up going with the Galaxy. But either phone is solid imo. I liked the bigger screen.
