iPhone 5 on virgin instead of 5C quick sanity check before buying

I need to pick up an iPhone and Virgil's $30\month plan of auto pay for an iPhone seems killer. Right now they have a 16GB 5 for $404. This is $50 cheaper than the 5c. Yes 16 GB sucks but it is happening.

These phones are basically the same. Any reason not to save $50 and get the 5?

If you're going to go this route, I'd just buy an unlocked iPhone 5 outright, even if it's used. You should be able to find good deals on them now.

5c is essentially a 5. Same internals, but the 5c's camera is slightly upgraded.

I really like the 5c feel in the hand and would rock a white one without a case. The coating on the 5 will start to scratch and knick and almost warrants something thin. Still feels really good.

Anecdotal but I was noticing better battery on the 5c over the 5. For $50 though the 5 would be my choice.

Honestly, I'd pick the 5C. It'd feel better in the hand and it's universal device with just about every single LTE band you can get these days.

Although for $150 more than the 5, I'd probably just pick the 5S. It will last longer and get you better resale value if you go to offload it in a couple of years.

But, at that point, you should probably consider other carriers, like TMobile's $30/mo 100m 5GB data plan or AT&T's Aio Wireless, unlimited talk, text and 2GB of highspeed data for $55.

Switching to a GSM carrier will also give you way more flexibility in your devices, at least for the next couple of years.

I'd pick the one that was cheaper. Since it's the 5 which scratches easily (if it's the black), you can just get a nice case for it.

I personally just bought a clear plastic case off eBay for my gold 5s. It cost $1.29 shipped, and looks good.
