Iphone 5 Backup, Reset, and Restore Question

I've got a question regarding backing up, resetting, and restoring an iPhone 5. I'm having some intermittent battery issues and want to see if a clean wipe/restore might help it.

Anyway, what I'm wondering is, if I do a back up through iTunes on my PC, reset my phone, and then do a restore via iTunes, will it put back all my apps and data just as it was before I wiped it and in the same order?

Like if I had all my games on tab 1 and all my other utility apps on tab 2, would the restore put those apps in the same spot?

What about photos and videos? Will those be put back into the albums and will I keep any photo stream shares?

In other words, does a restore act like I imaged my iphone 5 before I wiped it? I've never done any of this restore stuff with itunes/iphones before.

Thanks.

1: Connect the iPhone to the computer and back it up
2: Click Restore
3: Choose if you want to do it clean, or from a backup.

3Clean: It's a brand new device. None of your old settings are there. Log into iCloud to download your contacts and whatnot. But you'll have to re-download your apps.

3Backup: It's the same as it was 15 minutes ago. Bit for bit, pixel for pixel.

Actually I just did the same thing.... you want to do a clean restore.

Thanks Stu.

So, let's just say I did do the Backup way, all my tabs previously will be as they were after the backup is restored? Like tab 1 will have my games, tab 2 will have utility apps, tab 3 misc, etc. etc?

If I did the clean restore, I don't mind having to redownload apps and re-arranging them, but what about my photos/videos? How do I back those up other than just copying them to my PC first.

If there's a better way of doing that, it's not something I've ever found.

For photos, they should sync through iCloud and PhotoStream, but videos... it depends on where they came from.

Thanks all for the replies, I'll try this out this weekend sometime. I don't really have anything important to lose if I mess something up anyways.

I did this when i got my iphone 5s and it did not restore the apps the way i had them. it actually installed some new apps that i had not had installed in a long time. I have never had good luck with itunes restoring apps correctly.

Bump to old thread.

I have not done the restore yet. Holidays came around and I just did not want to bother with it. I've got time to do it now but still am a bit confused.

So the reason I want to reset my phone is due to the weird battery issue I have (where the battery % indicator will go from like 50% -> 12% instantly). Before I go and swap out a phone, I want to see if a reset will work.

Now, I could do a clean wipe back to factory settings. However, if I did that, I'd lose all my saved game data which I'd rather not lose.

So then my next thought was to do a back up restore. However, if I do a backup restore, won't it just put my phone back to whenever the backup was made, and thus, the battery issue would still exist?

Thanks for any help.

I would think so but I dont think a software issue could cause that. I sounds like there is a bad cell in the battery to me.

BTW awesome name!

It could be a battery issue, but I am leaning towards software issue. The battery problem didn't happen at all pre iOS7. Once I installed iOS7, this problem began popping up.

I've also read through apple forum threads and it seems like other people are having the same issue as I am but never is there a solution.

I may just have to get my phone replaced. Good thing I still have apple care.

Backup your photos and videos to an alternate location just in case.

However, if you turn on iCloud, they should be automatically restored. Or at least the photos should be. Can't remember about the video.

Personally I think this complexity is stupid. Apple should simple have a "full" local backup option that backs up all the photos or videos regardless of if iCloud backup is active or not.
