I think iphone 4s is even a flop to apple fans, i've been watching the auctions that have ended and the price that these have been sold are under the retail price + tax. These are sales from people who preordered so that means is a guaranteed unit.

People really expected something new and revolutionary which is not the case for the iphone 4s imo. I remember when the iphone 4 was released people was buying them for $900-$1000

Nothing good can come of this thread.

People aren't buying these over retail which is unheard for an unreleased apple product.

Maybe they just smartened up. I never understood why people would pay MORE to buy the phone on eBay than it would cost to buy the phone on contract + ETF + first month. Maybe less hassle?

It won't be a flop, but it will be a disappointment. You won't see a frenzy like the iPhone4's long lines outside stores. There'll be a bump in sales, but it won't be close to the iPhone4 bump, and androidwill continue to swamp it in sales. Still, it will sell well in absolute sales.

An iPhone5 would have sparked a frenzy that rivaled or surpassed ast year'ss release.

Ok, you have two threads on FAIL and DISAPPOINT. Just seems like baiting to me.
I think Apple ramped up production so it's not a frenzy. Both Sprint and ATT sold out on 16GB models. And it hasn't even been 24 hours. Remember the rumor is Sprint invested 20 billion for a constant flow of iphones. And the first massive batch is gone in hours.
Seems like a success to me.

The phone hasn't even been released yet. Inventory is expected to be very, very high this time. You will have no problems walking into your local AT&T/Verizon/Sprint and getting a phone probably throughout the whole day.

Well obviously an entire lineup of phones across several manufacturers will outsell a single phone.

But the online presale is already falling behind. How do you know inventory is expected to be very very high? I'm sure it won't be a problem like the iPad 2, but I wouldn't be surprised if you have to deal with long lines the first few weeks. It wasn't impossible to get an iPhone 4, but you just had to wait through lines because of the activation process.

I think all this proves is that Apple's online store just surpassed eBay as the easier source to obtain Apple gears and get "deals".

It used to be the case that people had to walk to stores and place an order, y' know.

So far it appears Sprint has sold out of 16GB models, AT&T has a wait time of about 3 weeks on it and Verizon has a 2 week wait.

Seems like not so dissapointing to me.

AT&T already said it is there "most successful iPhone launch we’ve ever had.".

Every other phone company wish it's dissapointing sales numbers were this good.

Phandroids will continue to rave about epic Android sales when the Droid 1 still set the record with 100k over launch weekend. Of course the iPhone 4 on VZW alone shattered those records easily.

AT&T can sell 200k preorders and I'm pretty sure launch weekend we'll top 3 million like last year. But even with these numbers, the Phandroids will continue to laugh.

How were the SGS2 launch numbers by the way?

It can't fail to sell, even if Apple tried to make bad phones from now on, it would still take 3 years before it would start reflecting on sales. Android is my platform of choice but enough with this stupid anti iphone argument "if it sells less than iphone 4 it failed". Like it was said, whatever sales it gets, the numbers will be envied by Android OEM's.
People keep forgetting that many iphone users are tied into contracts and can't afford or simply don't feel the need to upgrade. And they are even less inclined to do so for a 4S, compared to a new design and feature count like they did for iphone3GS->iphone4. If you hate the iphone then fine, keep hating but disputing it's sales is just stupid. Watch Sprint post good numbers in Q4, even more so if they subsidize the Prime.

But even with these numbers, the Phandroids will continue to laugh. How were the SGS2 launch numbers by the way?

From the article:

Samsung is widely expected to report record profit from handset sales and overtake Apple as the world's biggest smartphone vendor in unit terms in the third quarter, after selling just about 1 million fewer smartphones than Apple in the second quarter.
